For just the second time this spring season, we have the Pirates Athletes of the Week for all of the varsity programs for the week ending April 19.
All of the programs played some exciting games/matches this past week, increasing records and working to improve day in and day out.
Baseball is first up today, which played only two games this week due to some issues with the weather. This week’s honor goes to shortstop Jimmy Cicale. In the Pirates 9-0 victory over Rancocas Valley, Cicale went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. In the Pirates 16-5 romp over Holy Spirit, Cicale went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Softball played three games this week, going 2-1. The honor this week for softball goes to Brooke Figiel. Figiel went a combined 2-for-7 with one home run, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored in wins over Pitman and Holy Cross.
Golf took part in the Garden State Cup and played two games this week. The two games were wins against Burlington Township and Bordentown Regional. The athlete of the week for golf goes to Matt Haddon, who shot a 35 against Bordentown.
Boy’s lacrosse dropped all three games it played this week, despite a tough fight against Northern Burlington until the middle of the fourth quarter. The athlete of the week for boy’s lacrosse goes to goalie Stephen Gigliotti, who has helped keep the Pirates in games all year.
Girl’s lacrosse just keeps winning games, taking down Delran and Northern Burlington this week to move to 5-1. The honor this week is a co-award for Morgan Gares and Shannon Forbes, each of whom scored four goals total across the two games played.
Boy’s tennis played just one match this week, a win against Northern Burlington, but also took part in the BC Open. The athlete of the week award for boy’s tennis goes to the doubles team of Ronnie Runquist and George Rider for their win against NBC.
Boy’s volleyball continues to work on improving their game, but struggled again in the second full week of the season. The Pirates dropped games to Moorestown, Pennsauken and West Windsor-Plainsboro North. The squad picked up its second win of the season by taking down Paul VI. The athlete of the week honor goes to Ryan Fisher, who recorded 1 ace, 9 service points, 1 kill, 24 assists and 6 digs in the win over Paul VI.
