Since a season-opening loss to Holy Cross, 9-8, girl’s lacrosse had won six games in a row coming into Saturday’s late-morning matchup with Rancocas Valley.

The Red Devils did not care what the Pirates had done over the past two-plus weeks as they put up 16 goals en route to a 16-3 road victory.

Cinnaminson received goals from Julia Averill, Grace Shallow and Shannon Forbes in the loss, which drops Cinnaminson to 6-2 on the young season.

The Red Devils did not waste any time on Saturday, scoring 1:11 into the opening half. Rancocas Valley would build a 5-0 lead before Averill put the Pirates on the board.

Cinnaminson trailed 10-1 at halftime, but Shallow made it a 10-2 game just 59 seconds into the second. Forbes added her goal with 56 seconds left in the game.

“We have had a great start to the season. There’s a lot of good things in today’s game and that’s what we always try to do. Find the good and transfer it into the next game. We will also fix what we were not so good at today, which was transitions,” head coach Laura Curran said following the loss.

Girl’s lacrosse returns to the field on Monday, April 27 at 3:30pm when they host Holy Cross for a much-anticipated rematch.

“We want this game. So does Holy Cross. Doing it on our home field will help. We always have a good turnout of fans. We have to remember what we did in the first game against them. That was our first game and it was Holy Cross’ third. We have to take the energy we have right now, and the anger from losing this game, and turn it around and filter it into energy on Monday.”

The Pirates will look to fix their transition game prior to Monday’s contest with Holy Cross.

“We need to be more confident in making passes in transition and be confident that our teammate is going to catch it. We play very cautious in that way, instead of passing it and moving it. That’s something that from day one we have practiced and we will continue to make that our biggest growth area.”
