Without further adieu, here are the top 5 boy’s soccer games of the fall 2015 season.
#5: Cinnaminson (1) at Rancocas Valley (1) – 2OT – 10/1
The Pirates battled to a 1-1 tie after 100 minutes with Rancocas Valley on October 1 at their place. It was quite possibly one of the best-played games all season by the Pirates. Cinnaminson’s lone goal came from Chris Updike as Mike Deal made 19 (yes, 19) saves in net to keep the Pirates in it.
#4: Cinnaminson (0) at Burlington Township (0) – 10/17
In the first round of the South Jersey Coaches Cup, the Pirates took on Burlington Township, playing to a 0-0 tie after double overtime. Due to the game being part of a tournament, it could not end there, but instead with penalty kicks. The Falcons and Pirates went into multiple rounds, with the Falcons pulling out a 12-11 victory to advance in the tourney and it came one day after the Pirates picked up a 1-0 win over them.
#3: Cinnaminson (1) at Middle Township (0) – 11/6
In the second round of the South, Group 2 playoffs, the Pirates found themselves traveling to Middle Township. Coming into the game, the Panthers had an overall record of 17-1 with their lone loss coming to Pleasantville just four games into the regular season. The Pirates lone goal came from CJ Zimmer with roughly 23 minutes remaining in the second half.
#2: Delran (1) at Cinnaminson (1) – 11/13
In the South, Group 2 Final, the Pirates hosted rival Delran. The Bears struck first with just over 27 minutes left in the second half on a header from Skyler Diggs. Cinnaminson responded with the tying goal at 18:55 when Pat McCarthy headed in a ball from Sampson Abah. The game remained tied at one after double overtime, moving it to penalty kicks. The Bears won the sectional title 4-2 on kicks to advance to the Group 2 State Tournament. Shootout goals were scored by McCarthy and Sean Bockius.
#1: Pinelands (2) at Cinnaminson (2) – 11/5
In the opening round of the South, Group 2 playoffs, the Pirates hosted Pinelands. Cinnaminson picked up regulation goals from Ryan Mahaffy and CJ Zimmer. It looks as though the game would end in a 2-1 victory for the Pirates, but a penalty call inside the box with 1.2 seconds left and ensuing penalty kick goal sent it to overtime. After double overtime, the two teams went to a shootout. The Pirates won it 4-1 to advance to the second round.
Tomorrow we will have the Top 5 Girl’s Soccer Games of 2015. Friday marks the conclusion of the fall 2015 Top 5 series with the Top 5 Football Games of 2015.
