The Pirates Week in Review for February 22-28 is here. Take a look back at how the Pirates sports teams did this past week.
Boy’s basketball went 2-1 this week with wins over Group 4 schools Montgomery and Rancocas Valley. Their lone loss came to Willingboro on the road. The two victories came at home, giving the Pirates an 11-0 mark in front of their own fans for the season.
The week began with a 52-51 win over Montgomery on a buzzer-beating shot from senior Pat McCarthy. The Pirates trailed 31-20 at the half, but stormed back with a 14-5 fourth quarter to win the game.
The win against RV ended the regular season schedule and required more late-game heroics. The Pirates led 51-41 heading into the fourth, but the Red Devils outscored Cinnaminson 25-18. Holding on to a one-point lead McCarthy rose to the occasion again, hitting two huge free throws to give the Pirates a 69-66 lead that would turn into the final score.
Boy’s basketball (18-7) begins the playoffs on Tuesday night at 7pm when they host Cedar Creek in the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament.
Girl’s Basketball also went 2-1 this week, picking up wins against Haddon Township and Willingboro before dropping their regular season finale against Rancocas Valley.
Monday saw the Pirates hit the road to take on Haddon Township as senior Marisa DiLeo needed just 18 points to reach 1,000 for her career. DiLeo netted 15 in a 48-40 victory. The Pirates outscored the Hawks 16-2 to take the lead and pull away with the win.
Willingboro came to town on Tuesday with DiLeo now just three points from becoming the fourth female in program history to score 1,000 in a career. DiLeo picked up all three points on free throws in the first quarter. She went on to lead the Pirates in scoring with 17 points as the Pirates picked up their 20th win of the season 61-53.
In the season finale, the Pirates suffered their sixth loss of the season (20-6) with a 58-27 setback to Rancocas Valley. Girl’s basketball begins the playoffs Tuesday at 5pm when Buena comes to town for the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament.
