The second Senior Spotlight to drop today features our conversation with girl’s lacrosse player Grace Shallow.
College: Temple University
Major: Journalism
College sports: Possibly intramural or club sports
Cinn City Sports: What is your favorite aspect of the game of lacrosse?
Shallow: My favorite aspect/part of lacrosse would have to be that amazing feeling you get once you score a goal or win a huge game. Our team tries to focus on reminding everyone, freshmen to varsity, that each player on every level plays a role in the program and its very important for us all to be hungry for a win. So, whenever there is something to celebrate, you always have your teammates right behind you, cheering you on and supporting you which is my favorite part of lacrosse as a whole.
CCS: Do you have a favorite class at CHS?
Shallow: Journalism, it made me realize what I wanted to do for a career.
CCS: Do you have a favorite band or artist?
Shallow: My favorite artist would either by Amy Winehouse or Awolnation.
Favorite Movie: The Devil Wears Prada
CCS: What was the most challenging class you took at CHS?
Shallow: Honors Physics. I am definitely more of an English-centered student and this class definitely pushed all of my math and science skills to the limits.
CCS: Who first got you interested in lacrosse?
Shallow: Most of my friends in middle school went out for the team, so I decided to join too.
CCS: Who has been the biggest influence on your athletic career at CHS?
Shallow: As I know many other girls on my team have said, my lacrosse coach Laura Curran would have to be the biggest influence. She is so great at motivating us and showing us how passionate she is about the sport. It inspires me to play harder and work for every opportunity I have on the field. She has made me such a more confident player and I know that I can trust her with anything, on and off the field.
CCS: What will you miss most about CHS?
Shallow: I will miss the opportunity of attending sports events or school events, like the Pep Rally or Pride Day, as a student because there is so much pride in our school. Watching athletics and cheering on the players along with all of the people from your school is a really cool experience that is going to be hard to beat since we have all practically known each other since kindergarten.
CCS: Do you have anything planned for your post-high school summer vacation?
Shallow: I am most excited to be going to Firefly, a four day musical festival in Delaware the day after graduation and to be going on my second week-long Habitat for Humanity trip in Wake County, North Carolina.
CCS: What is your most memorable moment from your athletic career at CHS?
Shallow: Beating Delran 3-2 when I was a sophomore on varsity field hockey and scoring the tying goal.
