Sunday, April 26 marks the third Pirates Athletes of the Week feature for the spring sports season, which has been a fun one so far for all of the varsity programs.

The first honor of the week will go to a Pirate baseball player. The baseball team played three games this week, finishing two of them, as their contest with Pemberton was suspended due to field conditions. That game will be finished on Monday.

The athlete of the week honor for baseball goes to Travis Pewor. This is really a no-brainer and probably doesn’t even need to be mentioned because of what he did to earn the honor.

Pewor hit a go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, 2-run home run in the top of the seventh at Moorestown on Friday to give the Pirates a 4-3 victory.

For softball, which went 0-2 this week, the athlete of the week honor goes to Tori Robinson. Robinson went 2-for-3 with one run scored in the loss to Delran.

Girl’s lacrosse extended its win streak to six with a 20-2 win over Maple Shade, but then saw the streak end with a 16-3 loss to Rancocas Valley on Saturday.

The athlete of the week for girl’s lacrosse is Grace Shallow, who recorded six goals in the Maple Shade victory.

Boy’s lacrosse fell to Rancocas Valley 14-4 on Saturday morning for their fifth consecutive loss of the year. Having played just one game this week, the Pirates did not see much time on the field. Our athlete of the week for boy’s lacrosse goes to frosh goalie George Snedden. Snedden played the entire second half, allowing just three goals.

The athlete of the week honor for boy’s tennis, which went 0-2 this week, goes to Eddie Runquist. Runquist won his singles match against Palmyra and captured the second singles title at the BCSL Open on Saturday.

For boy’s volleyball, the athlete of the week honor goes to Peter Selnek, who picked up one ace, 5 service points, 10 kills and 6 digs in the Pirates first win of a 7-1 week against Camden Academy Charter. He added 3 service points, 5 kills and 5 digs against Hopewell Valley Central, also a win.

The athlete of the week for golf is not an individual this week. How can there be just one when the team won the school’s first-ever BCSL Open title for the sport? There can’t be, so the honor this week goes to the entire team for the historic victory.

Girl’s track and field took down Bordentown this week for their second win of the season. The athlete of the week for girl’s track and field is Prisca Blamon, who won the triple jump with a jump of 31 feet 1.5 inches.

Boy’s track and field also beat Bordentown this week to remain undefeated on the year. The athlete of the week here goes to Mike Ungvarsky, who ran the 3200 in 10:36.1.
