Cinnaminson High School alum and Neumann men’s soccer player Jake McDevitt garnered multiple accolades for his recent offensive dominance.

McDevitt (CHS ’14) set a program record for points in a game with eight in a 5-2 win over Stevenson on September 14.

McDevitt scored three goals and added two assists.

“We started out not too hot. We started out 0-4,” McDevitt said. “We played some pretty good teams that were Top 25 caliber.”

“We hadn’t scored this year until that game against Stevenson. I had an assist to open the game to make it 1-0 and I felt like taking over.”

McDevitt then opened the scoring against Salisbury on September 17. The Knights went on to defeat the Seagulls 2-1 in overtime.

For his efforts last week McDevitt was named the CSAC Player of the Week and the ECAC Corvis DIII Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

“It’s a pretty big deal. In high school I got all-South Jersey and all-State awards,” McDevitt said.

“It kind of takes me back and it shows that it doesn’t go unnoticed. Even if it’s a small Division III school like Neumann, it gets noticed. If you had a good week, they find you.”

McDevitt was also named to the DIII Men’s Soccer HERO of the Week poll for his performance.

The poll closed this afternoon. McDevitt finished in third place behind Mike Warren of Old Westbury and Zack Quest of Emory & Henry.

“I’m pretty self-motivated,” McDevitt said. “It doesn’t take a lot to motivate myself. I finally said, ‘Enough’s enough.’ It was time to step up and I put the team on my back.”

For the season, McDevitt has four goals and two assists for 10 points. He leads the team in goals scored.

“It shows that hard work pays off,” McDevitt said. “I let my game talk, instead of letting little things get to me. I’m hoping it rallies the guys on our team.”

For his career, McDevitt has 15 goals. He led the team in goals with six in 2015, three of them game-winners. As a freshman, McDevitt notched five goals, two of them game-winners.

The Knights are 2-5 on the season and open CSAC play at Immaculata on Saturday.
