The Pirates will finally play a home game when they host the Red Devils today at 3:45pm. It will be our game coverage for the day, which means that softball vs Rancocas Valley is featured in our Gameday Focus today.

When: Thursday, April 14 at 3:45pm

Where: Cinnaminson

Cinnaminson: 2-6

Rancocas Valley: 3-0

Cinnaminson comes into today’s home opener with a 2-6 record and fresh off a 10-2 win against Pemberton in nine innings. The game was tied at two heading into the top of the ninth when the Pirates offense exploded for eight runs en route to the win.

Chelsea Price picked up her first varsity win in the circle by throwing two scoreless and hitless innings in relief of Rebecca Martino. Martino allowed one earned run on four hits in seven innings of work.

“Confidence was high yesterday,” head coach Tracy Bart said of her pitchers. “They both showed it well yesterday. Rebecca showed it yesterday. Chelsea has been showing it the last couple of games by shutting down teams when she goes in.”

The offense banged out 21 hits in the win. Kelly Sigmund led the way with a 5-for-6 day at the plate with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Gia Trzaska went 4-for-5 and Olivia Pestridge went 3-for-6 with an RBI.

Coach Bart told us what she said to the girls following their win against Pemberton Wednesday:

“I told them that they need to build off today’s fielding, hitting, and pitching and carry it into tomorrow’s game.”

It has been a tough go of it for the Pirates to begin the season, having yet to play a home game. Cinnaminson’s game against Pemberton yesterday was originally scheduled for Tuesday at home, but rain forced it to Pemberton Wednesday.

The other win this year for Cinnaminson came against Buena, also by a 10-2 score, at the Fred Powell Tournament hosted by Williamstown.

“We need to be as sound as possible on offense,” Bart said. “This includes small ball. It has to be a mixture of small ball, but also coming up with the big hit when we need it.”

Cinnaminson and Rancocas Valley met once in 2015 with RV picking up a 4-0 win. The Pirates were held to three hits in last year’s meeting, two by alum Shannon Profy. The other came off the bat of Olivia Pestridge.

The Red Devils come into this game having recently beaten Northern Burlington 2-0. Angie Dunphy tossed a three-hit shutout for the Red Devils.

Coach Bart said the following about what RV will bring to the field today:

“It will be the typical RV team; strong pitching, strong fielding, strong hitting. They play small ball too.”
