A 10-year-old Cinnaminson student was detained on Wednesday morning in relation to a creepy clown threat posted to Twitter on Tuesday night.
The post was found on an account named Cinnaminson Clowns and stated: “We are going to Eleanor Rush School to kill hurt and harm the students this week.”
The Twitter account was created this month and has Cinnaminson listed as its location.
The profile information states: “I am mostly in Cinnaminson NJ.”
Police were alerted to the post on Tuesday night and immediately launched an investigation, according to a release.
“Due to the threat, the Cinnaminson Police provided an increased Uniformed Police presence at Eleanor Rush School as well as all of our schools in order to provide an extra layer of security for our students, faculty and staff.”
A search warrant was executed Wednesday morning and officers seized multiple electronic devices.
The devices led the officers to a juvenile student from the district.
“The juvenile was released to the custody of their guardian pending the filing of complaints after conferring with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office,” the release stated. “No further information will be provided to protect the identity of the juvenile. The investigation revealed no steps had been attempted to carry out the threats.”
Director of Public Safety Michael King said, “I would like to reassure you the Cinnaminson Police Department at my direction will continue to take a Zero Tolerance approach towards any acts involving “creepy clown” sightings or threats.
I continue to have regular contact with Dr. Illuzzi of the Cinnaminson Township School District. Cinnaminson Police Department is fortunate to have a close working relationship with the School District.”
As of 1:45pm this afternoon the account was still active.
This is the second creepy clown incident in Cinnaminson this month.
