One of the best rivalries in Burlington County football will renew tonight at 7pm when the Pirates host the Holy Cross Lancers for this season’s homecoming game. Here is our week five preview.
Cinnaminson enters tonight’s contest with a 4-0 record and will look to start 5-0 for the first time since 1991, when the team went undefeated under Dave Riley.
The Pirates are coming off a 15-9 victory over Hamilton West on the road Saturday that saw them trail for the first time this season when the Hornets scored on a rushing touchdown with 2:59 left in the first half to go up 6-0 after a failed PAT.
That did not deter the Pirates, who used the running game to control the clock in the fourth quarter and come away with the winning score.
Quarterback Shaun Davilla used his legs to propel the Pirates to victory, rushing for two scores on 18 carries for 79 yards. His 10-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left in the game sealed the fourth victory of the season for Cinnaminson.
Davilla is the Pirates leading rusher in 2015, racking up 312 yards on the ground. He has thrown for 287 yards and three touchdowns with his 24 completions.
Through four games played, the Pirates defense has allowed a total of 25 points and has come up with big plays when it really counts.
In the Hamilton West game, the Hornets were at midfield late in the fourth after Cinnaminson took the lead when linebacker Dominic Cicale recovered a fumble to secure the win.
Cinnaminson has outscored its opponents 103-25 through four games, with the defense posting two shutouts along the way.
Holy Cross enters this game with a 2-2 record, fresh off a 21-7 win over Florence Friday night. The Lancers have relied heavily on the running game this season, racking up 149 yards in their win over the Flashes.
Running back Rob Rodolico has 429 rushing yards on the year and two touchdowns.
Holy Cross has lost to Palmyra and Pemberton. The other win came against Delran on opening night, 40-19. The Lancers have allowed 79 points this season and have scored 91.
The Lancers hold a 29-4-1 advantage over Cinnaminson in the all-time series and came away with a 62-29 victory over the Pirates last season at Holy Cross. When the two teams met last year, both were undefeated at the time.
