Week two of the Pirates football season has arrived, which means that the game preview for week 2 football against Willingboro is also here! The Chimeras come to town tonight for a date with the Pirates. Kickoff is slated for 7pm.
Cinnaminson hosted Robbinsville in week one and posted a 27-0 victory, the program’s fourth overall against the young school. There were impressive performances on both sides of the ball, and on special teams, as the Pirates held Robbinsville to just 51 yards of offense.
The biggest performance of the night came from new quarterback, former wide receiver, Shaun Davilla. Davilla took a punt 65 yards for a touchdown, scored on a 12-yard run and tossed a 49-yard touchdown pass to newcomer Devon Taylor.
The Pirates defense was impenetrable last Friday night, allowing just 51 yards of offense. The squad also picked up three sacks, and multiple tackles for loss and forced eight punts. Robbinsville couldn’t get anything going on the ground or through the air. In fact, it took until the there was 31 seconds left in the second quarter for Robbinsville to get their first first down of the game.
The biggest concern from the season-opening win was that the Pirates turned the ball over twice on an interception and a fumble.
Willingboro comes into tonight’s game following a 28-14 loss to Northern Burlington in week one. The Chimeras were able to run the ball effectively, but had trouble getting anything going through the air against the Greyhounds.
Willingboro’s Amir Murray gained 136 yards on 19 carries, including one touchdown, in the loss. Quarterback Trey Greene threw for 72 yards and one touchdown on 6 of 16 passing.
The Chimeras committed three turnovers in the loss, two fumbles and an interception. Willingboro had a difficult time stopping the run as the Greyhounds gained 202 yards on the ground from four different players. The Chimeras also allowed two rushing touchdowns in the loss.
Pirates head coach Mario Patrizi stressed after the Robbinsville win that to be successful tonight, the defense must prevent Willingboro from doing what they do best; the big play. Northern Burlington was able to do limit the big plays in week one, which helped them win their season-opener.
The rushing and passing touchdowns for Willingboro in their opener came on plays of 17 and 32 yards, respectively.
Kickoff at George D. Paternoster Memorial Field is at 7pm tonight. Follow us on Twitter for live updates from the game. Check back later tonight for a recap of the game with pictures and interviews.
