The Pirates girl’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Liberty Division rival Rancocas Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

Cinnaminson entered the game with a 2-0-1 mark after wins over Kingsway and Moorestown and a draw against Williamstown.

The Pirates came into today’s Liberty contest with a 1-0 mark as the 3-1 win over Moorestown came in divisional play.

“We were excited to beat Moorestown,” head coach Matt Digney said. “We had the weekend off and couldn’t have a traditional practice with the rain yesterday.”

“I was a little nervous about today, but we talked about not living in the past and moving forward. We wiped the Moorestown game from our minds. We knew we had a tough RV team in front of us and I thought the girls responded pretty well.”

Rancocas Valley entered at 1-3 and 1-1 in the Liberty.

“I was a little nervous about today, but we talked about not living in the past and moving forward,” Digney said. “We wiped the Moorestown game from our minds. We knew we had a tough RV team in front of us and I thought the girls responded pretty well.”

Cinnaminson is now 3-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the division, while Rancocas Valley falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty.

“Certainly a good start, you can’t argue that,” Digney said. “When we’re working as a team defensively and offensively, we’re a pretty good team. We’re just focusing on getting better as a team. I think the girls are all on board. Let’s work hard for each other and get out of here with a team win.”

The Pirates opened the scoring roughly 25 minutes into the game when freshman Emma Karch scored her first varsity goal.

“It felt good. I’ve been working hard all season for it,” Karch said. “I knew that if I could get wide, and my touches were on, I could go towards the goal.”

Kelly Kane made it a 2-0 game not long before the half.

Miranda Sackner iced the win with her second goal of the season midway through the second half.

The 3-0 win is the third shutout recorded by the Pirates this season. Cinnaminson has allowed one goal through four games to open the year.

“Three shutouts in the first four games,” Digney said. “This is a group (defense) that’s been playing together since their, freshman year. They are in sync a lot. Very rarely are they confused.”

Keeper Maddie Ogden has been strong in net for the Pirates in her first extended varsity action.

“She’s been great. She was great in the Moorestown game,” Digney said. “She was great today. She plays like the position is her’s. She’s a big part of what we have to do.”

Ogden only had to make three saves in the victory Tuesday.

“The defense is so great,” Ogden said. “They always clear it out. I have to give a lot of credit to them because I don’t have to make as many saves because they are there.”

“We’re doing great so far. It’s really great to beat teams like Moorestown and RV. It’s great to start to the season out so strong.”

Going back to the second meeting between the Pirates and Red Devils in the 2014 season, Cinnaminson is now 3-0-1 against Rancocas Valley in the last four games.

Cinnaminson returns to the field on Thursday, September 22 at 3:30pm with a game at Burlington Township.
