Following a tough, 1-0 loss to Northern Burlington on Tuesday, the Pirates wanted to get off to a roaring start against Pennsauken on Thursday. The Pirates had no trouble doing just that, scoring early and often in the first half en route to a 6-0 victory over the Indians to move to 6-2-1.

“I was pleased with our play against Northern Burlington,” head coach Matt Digney said. “It might have even been one of our better games as far as possessing the ball. Where we really, really struggled was attacking the final third. Crosses were going over the bar and shots were going right at the keeper.”

“We wanted to get back into the mode of finishing. We left a lot of goals out there. Maybe it translated a little more into our final result today.”

Seven minutes into the game, Hailey Gutowski opened the scoring for the Pirates, beating the defense and finding the back of the net for her first of two goals.

Gutowski would secure her second goal of the game just 19 seconds later to give Cinnaminson a 2-0 lead.

The McHugh sisters got into the scoring act on Thursday, with Amanda finding paydirt at 31:41 and Jamie striking gold with 23:23 left in the opening stanza.

“We played a lot of girls in different spots today, other positions to get some experience,” Digney said.

Casey Joyce and Fiona Flynn added the final two goals of the half and the game with under 10 minutes to play before the break.

“We have to start stringing together all our pieces,” Digney said. “I think we’re playing hard, playing smart, but some days we might struggle defensively, some days offensively. We’ve got to put together a total team effort.”

“We are going to go after Bordentown with everything we have,” Digney said. “We’re not going to change anything. My goal is to get better every game. Even with that loss the other day, I think we’ve learned something about that.”

“I think we match up really well against Bordentown. We have to be focused, get out there and take advantage of our opportunities. They have some offensive ability up top so we have to get after them defensively. We have to get early goals, don’t waste opportunities and get goals not to hang on and beat teams, but beat teams early.”
