In the regular season finale for boy’s soccer, the Pirates (9-6-3) fell in double overtime to New Egypt (7-9-1) by a count of 3-2 on Friday.

“That game was a frustrating game,” head coach Jay Meile said. “Things that we did wrong and things that were out of our power.”

Box Score

The Pirates received first half goals from senior Tom Long and junior Ryan Mahaffy, while New Egypt got two first half goals from Riley Hughes to tie the game at two at the break.

The two teams played to a scoreless second half despite the Pirates dominating all 40 minutes of play offensively and defensively.

Cinnaminson had plenty of chances to take the lead in the second half, but could not finish any of their shots. Meile was direct after the game about his team’s ability to finish shots.

“Finishing. If you can’t score, you can’t win.”

The first overtime period between boy’s soccer and the Warriors was pretty much the same as the second half, with the Pirates failing to finish on their shots and dominating the play.

New Egypt was awarded a corner kick early in the second overtime that turned into the golden goal for the Warriors. The goal came from Hughes, his third of the day for the hat trick at 8:04, a little less than two minutes into overtime.

The Pirates lost four of their final fiveĀ games of the regular season. One loss came on penalty kicks in the Coaches Cup and three came in overtime (two in double overtime).

Boy’s soccer hits the field again on Tuesday, November 3 at 2pm for the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament with a home game against Pinelands. The Pirates are the 7-seed and Pinelands comes in as the 10-seed.

“We have to go back to practice tomorrow (Saturday), go back to what we’ve been doing all season to prepare for Tuesday,” Meile said. “You’ve gotta move on and focus on what Pinelands does.”
