We conclude our top 5 series for the fall sports season at Cinnaminson High School with the top 5 football games of 2015 today. Football finished the year with an 8-2 mark, a berth in the South, Group 2 playoffs and a share of the Liberty Division crown. Without further adieu, here are our top 5 football games of 2015.

#5: Holy Cross (34) at Cinnaminson (33) – 10/9

Coming into this WJFL Liberty Division contest the Pirates boasted a 4-0 record and plenty of momentum after picking up two shutouts over Robbinsville and Bordentown, also divisional opponents. Holy Cross came in with a 2-2 record and it was a struggle for them to get to 2-2. The Pirates led 21-0 at halftime, but Holy Cross took advantage of Pirate mistakes in the second half to shock Cinnaminson with a 34-33 victory.

#4: Cinnaminson (7) at Buena (28) – 11/13

In the opener of the South, Group 2 playoffs, the Pirates traveled as the five-seed to four-seed Buena Regional. These two teams met in a tri-scrimmage with Ocean City in the pre-season, but that could not prepare the Pirates for what was to come. The Chiefs picked up a 28-7 victory on the strength of four rushing touchdowns and 367 rushing yards. Buena’s defense recorded six sacks, allowed just seven Pirates first downs and held Cinnaminson to just 136 yards of offense in the victory.

#3: Lawrence (28) at Cinnaminson (57) – 10/16

The game against Lawrence came one week following the upset loss at the hands of Holy Cross and could have been a major trap game for the Pirates, who could have rolled over and let the previous week’s loss linger. Instead, the Pirates scored the most points in a single game under head coach Mario Patrizi en route to a 57-28 win, their fifth of the season. Of their eight touchdowns, the Pirates scored seven of them on the ground.

#2: Cinnaminson (15) at Hamilton West (9) – 10/3

In their fourth game of the season, the Pirates hit the road to take on Group 3 school Hamilton West. The weather was nasty and the play was sloppy on both sides, but Cinnaminson returned home 4-0 after a 15-9 last-second victory. Quarterback Shaun Davilla scored both rushing touchdowns for the Pirates, with the second one giving Cinnaminson the lead with 49 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Pirates defense held on the ensuing drive, recording a sack to end the game.

#1: Cinnaminson (45) at Pemberton (34) – 11/6

In what turned out to be a statement win for the Pirates, Cinnaminson throttled previously unbeaten Pemberton 45-34 on their home field in the final game prior to the playoffs. The Pirates built a 21-12 lead at halftime en route to scoring 45 points. Pemberton did its best to get back into the game in the second half, scoring 22 points, 14 in the third quarter, to make it a game. The Pirates defense intercepted three Joe Benson passes, two by Devon Taylor and one by Kevin Schoch, to aid in preventing a comeback by the Hornets. The win kept Cinnaminson in the race for the Liberty crown, which they secured a share of with a 41-16 win over Delran on Thanksgiving day.
