On Monday afternoon, senior Ryan Addlesberger signed his National Letter of Intent with Manhattan College. Addlesberger was surrounded by family, friends, track and field coaches and members of the Cinnaminson High School Administration and Athletic Department.
Addlesberger has made a name for himself during his time at Cinnaminson both in track and field and in wrestling.
Addlesberger explained what it was that drew him to Manhattan College.
“I had three things I wanted to fulfill; I wanted to feel comfortable with the team and the coach, having a nice track team where I can grow up and develop and of course, the academics. They have an Exercise Science program that I looked into and I really like. It’s very detailed and one of the top schools on my list with that program in it.”
The shot put extraordinaire forewent his final season on the wrestling team to focus entirely on getting stronger for the spring track and field season.
“We have a winter track program here at Cinnaminson and I competed in that. In the summer and fall I took part in a weight-lifting program along with conditioning and core workout sessions where I threw. It was a lot of training and I could see it progressively paying off.”
Addlesberger joined track and field back in middle school, trying out almost all of the events, but found a niche in the shot put.
“I stuck with shot put. At first, I wasn’t that bad at it and I enjoyed it. I just kind of stuck with it and it’s always been a lot of fun. Wrestling is very serious, and I love that about it. Track is very serious as well. I just enjoy shot put and track and throwing. It’s my passion.”
Charlie Kind, one of Addlesberger’s track coaches, had nothing but praise for the senior and his work ethic.
“You cannot possibly find a better student, person and shot putter. He watches film every single day. I am not talking just turning on the film. I’m talking at least half an hour to an hour of film. It’s also not just film of himself. He watches film of other throwers to see what he can tweak himself. His success is not unexpected because of his work ethic. A lot of the credit for that goes to his mom and his grandparents who have forged that kind of work ethic in him.”
