The Cinnaminson Reds visited the Willingboro Townsends on Thursday night and returned to town with an 11-5 win, their eighth straight.

The Reds are now 10-1 and in sole possession of the first place in the Rancocas Valley League.

“I think it’s our team’s mentality. We’re a scrappy group,” right fielder Bill Dove said. “It showed last year in the playoffs when we finished fourth and then played in an elimination game every game. It’s a scrappy group of guys.”

Troy Hunter got the start for the Reds, going six innings for his second win of the year. Hunter allowed all five Willingboro runs, but only one was earned as Cinnaminson committed two errors.

“There was a point in the second inning when the wheels fell off early in the game, but he did a great job of getting it back,” manager Frank Sirolli said. “He went on to pitch another four innings. He did a great job coming back.”

Brett Miller pitched the seventh inning for the Reds and needed just seven pitches to end the game. He allowed a two-out single and nothing more.

Cinnaminson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI hit by Dove and an RBI groundout by Greg Santuro.

“He’s (Dove) a versatile guy,” Sirolli said. “We can put him at the corners in the infield, behind the plate, or in the outfield and he’s willing to do it.”

The Reds went up 3-0 in the third on an RBI single from Dove.

Willingboro scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 3-3. They took their only lead of the night in the bottom of the third 4-3.

“We were up three, they tied it up, we went down and then the next inning we went back in front,” Dove said. “It’s our mentality. We just don’t quit.”

The Reds scored three times in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good.

“Resilient. We just don’t panic when we get down runs,” Sirolli said. “It’s good to see the new guys fall in line. The young guys just kept pace tonight. We were able to get some big hits and come back.”

Cinnaminson picked up an RBI double from Dove and RBI singles from Cody MacNair and Brett Bowles to make it a 6-4 game.

Willingboro made it a 6-5 game in the bottom of the fourth.

The Reds scored twice in the fifth and three times in the seventh to take home the win 11-5 on a two-run double by Kyle Higgins, an RBI single for Conall Roberts, an RBI single for Frank Sirolli and an error.

Dove finished the night 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

“I’m seeing the ball really well. Frankie’s showing a lot of confidence in me,” Dove said. “He relies on me heavily in the lineup in my third year on the team. We’re seeing everybody’s big boy pretty much, trying to knock us off.”

The Reds return to the field on Sunday, June 19 at 7pm for a home game against Riverside at Memorial Park. Cinn City Sports will have coverage as Cinnaminson goes for their ninth win in a row.
