On the evening of June 22, the Cinnaminson Reds fell to the Burlington Mets for their second time this week with a final score of 8-0, making the Reds’ record for the Rancocas Valley League 10-4.
“We’ve been playing against them for years,” Frank Sirolli, manager of the Reds and centerfielder, said. “You always know you’re going to have a good game with them.”
Both the Mets and the Reds remained scoreless in the first inning. With fast hits to left field, the Mets were able to score 3 runs and scored another 5 in the 3rd inning.
Neither team managed to score during the rest of the game, despite line-drive hits and good defense on each side.
“It’s just the expression ‘That’s baseball’. You just have to grind out the game,” Sirolli said. “We put a couple of nice at-bats together in the fourth inning but didn’t get any runs out of it and I think that broke our spirit a little bit.”
This games marks the Reds’ third loss in a row. For Sirolli, a team of players who are familiar with each other is a benefit during a situation like this.
“Everyone knows who we are on this team. We’re one of the top two or three teams in this league. For games like this, you just have to have a short term memory and put it behind you,” he added.
The Reds are scheduled to play against Pine Barrens Phantoms tonight on the road at 7:30pm. For this game, Sirolli wants his players to be mentally prepared from “the first pitch to the last”
“We are going to be ready,” he said.
Cinnaminson returns home on Sunday, June 26 at 7pm against the Willingboro Townsends at Memorial Park.
