The Pirates Week in Review for February 1-7 is here. Catch up on what happened this past week in sports at Cinnaminson High School.
The week began with a bang as 1986 graduate and NFL veteran Andre Collins returned to his alma mater to present the school with a golden football from the NFL. Collings won a Super Bowl with the Washington Redskins after a stellar career at Penn State under Joe Paterno.
The bowling program had a full week, finishing the regular season against New Egypt on Monday, competing at the BCSL Divisional Championship on Friday and the girl’s sectional tournament on Saturday. Against New Egypt, the girls dropped a 3-1 decision and the boys tied 2-2. The girls finished the season 9-7-1 and the boys 11-3-3.
At the BCSL, the boy’s bowling team finished first and the girl’s bowling team finished third. Both Sean Harris and Paige D’Amato took home third highest series at the event. The girls competed at the Group 1 Sectional Tournament on Saturday and placed fourth overall out of 11 teams.
The next match for bowling is Saturday, February 13 when the boy’s squad competes at their sectional tournament at Brunswick Zone in Deptford.
Boy’s basketball played to an 0-2 week, dropping a close one to Freedom rival Burlington City and then a tough one to Group 3 Moorestown on Saturday.
The Pirates are now 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom. Cinnaminson has lost three in a row. Will Cabbler scored 24 in the loss to Burlington City and 25 in the loss to Moorestown.
Cinnaminson returns to the court Tuesday at home when they host New Egypt.
Girl’s basketball enjoyed a 3-0 week by beating Group 3 Moorestown Tuesday, Freedom rival Burlington City Thursday and Haddon Township on Saturday.
The win over Moorestown was the Pirates third against a Group 3 school this season and was accomplished using stifling defensive play. The win over Burlington City, by 22 points, moved the Pirates to 6-0 in the Freedom. The win Saturday against Haddon Township was the 14th of the season and 11th in a row.
Girl’s basketball returns to the court Monday night with a game at Delran.
Swimming went 2-0 this week, with both wins coming in the state tournament. The Pirates are competing in the Central, Group B bracket after finishing the regular season 8-4. The opening round saw the Pirates host Brick Memorial on Monday, coming away with a 95-75 victory.
Thursday, swimming traveled to Steinert to take on Jackson Memorial and dominated the meet to advance to the sectional semifinals tomorrow against West Windsor-Plainsboro South.
Winter track took part in just one meet this week, but they made their presence felt across Group 2 at the Group 2 Sectional at the Bennett Center.
The top six finishers in each event at the Group 2 Sectional qualify for the state meet on February 20. The Pirates had 10 athletes qualify in 9 different events, with Mike Ungvarsky qualifying twice.
Winter track will compete again on Monday evening at the NYC Armory in the Varsity Classic.
Wrestling had just three matches this week, going 2-1 with wins against Patriot rival Willingboro and Group 5 Shawnee and lost to Collingswood. The 78-0 win over Willingboro secured a second straight Patriot crown for Cinnaminson.
On Saturday, the Pirates competed a tri-match with the Renegades and Panthers. Cinnaminson took down Shawnee and lost to Collingswood to see their overall record move to 15-3 overall. Collingswood is the one-seed in the SJ2 bracket where the Pirates are the three-seed.
Wrestling is back on the mat Monday at 7pm with a home match against Delran in the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament.
