The Pirates Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 7 is here. See who takes home the honors this week across all six varsity winter programs.

Bowling: In a jam-packed week, with the boys competing against New Egypt and in the BCSL Divisional Championship, the honor goes to Sean Harris. Harris finished with the third highest series at the BCSL out of all the bowlers in attendance.

The girls also took on New Egypt, took part in the BCSL and competed at the Group 1 Sectional Tournament. The honor for the girls goes to Paige D’Amato. D’Amato took home third highest series at the BCSL and led the Pirates with the high series at the Sectional Tournament.

Boy’s Basketball: In a tough, 0-2 week for the Pirates, the honor goes to senior Will Cabbler. Cabbler led the Pirates in scoring this week with 24 in a 60-58 loss to Freedom rival Burlington City and 25 in a 68-61 loss to Group 3 Moorestown Saturday.

Girl’s Basketball: The Pirates played to a 3-0 record this week and are now 14-2 overall, 6-0 in the Freedom and have won 11 straight games. The honor this week goes to freshman Maddie Ogden. Ogden scored a career-high 12 points in the win over Burlington City and followed that performance up with 11 against Haddon Township.

Swimming: Swimming enjoyed a 2-0 week, with both wins coming in state tournament meets against Brick Memorial in the first round and Jackson Memorial in the second round. The honor for the boys goes to Brian Finnan. Finnan won two individual events against Brick Memorial and two against Jackson Memorial.

The honor this week for the girls goes to Lily Black. Black won one event against Brick Memorial and two events against Jackson Memorial. Against Jackson, Black broke her own record for the 500 freestyle.

Winter Track: At the Group 2 Sectional Meet Saturday at the Bennett Center, the Pirates had athletes qualify for states on February 20 in 10 events. One athlete qualified twice in Mike Ungvarsky, as he takes the honor for the boy’s squad this week. Ungvarsky finished second in the 1600 and first in the 3200. His time in the 3200 also qualified him for Eastern States.

The girl’s team had two athletes finish as high as third Saturday with both of them qualifying for states, which means this week’s honor is a co-award. Taylor Clark took third in the pole vault at 9-00.00 and Andrea Benites took third in the 800 with a time of 2:25.95.

Wrestling: The Pirates went 2-1 this week, with wins against Willingboro and Shawnee and a loss to Collingswood. The honor for wrestling goes to sophomore Kevin Schoch. Schoch returned to the mat following injury and displayed his quickness on Saturday in a come from behind win against Shawnee. Schoch trailed 2-0 after one period, 2-1 after two and then 4-3 late in the third period before making his move to pick up two points to win 5-4 with seconds remaining in the bout.
