With an eight game losing streak, and having already dropped a game to Delran this year, the Pirates wanted to get out to a quick start against the Bears on Monday at home.

Instead of grabbing the fast start, Delran scored early and often in the first half en route to a 9-2 win over the Pirates, who have now lost nine straight and fall to 2-9 on the year.

The previous loss to Delran came by a score of 9-3 back in April and was the second loss of the year for the Pirates at that time.

With five games left on the schedule, the Pirates can still secure a new high for wins in a season. The Pirates need to win two more games to tie that high and win three to set a new one. The highest win total came back in 2013, the second season for varsity boy’s lacrosse at Cinnaminson when the team won four games.

In order for this to happen, the Pirates will need to turn their flashes of improvement into entire games.

“The kids are capable of putting together a complete game,” head coach Craig Angelini said. “They can get the job done, but they mentally and individually they struggle with confidence. Until they overcome that, it’s going to be challenging for them. It’s a shame because we’ve gotten the worst end of a couple very questionable calls in a few games at key moments. Mentally, that’s been a crusher. We need a lucky bounce or a call to go our way so these guys can rally behind it.”

The Bears led Delran 5-0 at halftime and added one more goal before Cinnaminson got on the board in the third quarter with a goal from Ryan Bleistine.

Delran would increase the lead to 9-1 before Tyler Simcoe found the back of the net for the final goal of the game for either team with just 2:50 remaining.

“Our offense is playing much better than they have been,” Angelini said. “The problem now is not the execution of the offense. It’s our shot placement. We had 35 shots, and a lot of them were good shots, we are just not finishing. Our offense possessed the ball. They did a lot of nice things. It’s our shooting percentage that has been the problem in this game and the Moorestown Friends game.”

The Pirates return to the field on Wednesday, May 6 with an away game when they take on the Northern Burlington Greyhounds at 3:45pm.
