The 2nd annual Boy’s Lacrosse Comedy Night Fundraiser will be held Friday, April 15 at 8pm in the high school auditorium and will feature two seniors from the Class of 2016.
“Seniors Mike Zelinka and Andrew Greene will be making eyes melt and babies cry (and that’s just their opening act)…”
The boy’s lacrosse program held its first-ever comedy night fundraiser last year and it was quite a success, with more than 170 tickets sold.
The program last year featured Robin Fox, who hails from Nickelodeon’s NickMom special “Mom’s Night Out.”
Brenda McLaverty, who came up with the idea for the comedy night fundraiser, is excited to see what this year’s event will bring after such a successful first year.
“Last year went really well. We had two professional comedians come out. This year we are having two seniors who the kids really adore perform. We expect it to be a packed house.”
The money raised from the ticket sales will go towards paying for the team banquet at the end of the year and to make a donation to the school’s Pirate Pride Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded to seniors each year whose parents are sick or who have passed during the school year.
“The money we raise this year will go towards the same things,” McLaverty said. “We tape the games so the kids can go back and watch the games to improve. That costs money. This helps out a lot because it is an easy fundraiser.”
The two seniors who will perform this year in the high school auditorium are Mike Zelinka and Andrew Greene.
“Head coach Craig Angelini thought they would be a great idea because they are so popular with the kids that he thought it would be a great idea,” McLaverty said. “He asked them and they were all for it.”
Tickets cost $15 and the show is PG-13 rated. The show is scheduled for 8pm on April 15. Any questions, or to purchase tickets, contact Brenda McLaverty at bmclaverty1231@comcast.net.
“Coach Angelini said that there is a big buzz in the high school with the kids doing this,” McLaverty said. “He thinks we are going to surpass last year. Last year, we had quite a few people from the community come out and watch the comedy show. We are hoping the same thing happens this year.”
