The Pirates Athletes of the Week for October 9 have arrived. See who takes home the honors this week.
Boy’s Cross Country: The honor this week for boy’s cross country goes to the entire team, all eight runners, for recording an undefeated season. The Pirates went 15-0 during their batch meet portion of the schedule, including an impressive victory over Moorestown early in the year and a 7th place finish at the Manhattan Invitational on Saturday. The Pirates also won their fourth straight Patriot title this year.
Boy’s Soccer: Boy’s soccer went 2-0 this week to get back on track overall and in the division. A 6-1 win over Pemberton saw CJ Gee and Josh McDevitt score their first varsity goals. These two are our Pirates Athletes of the Week for boy’s soccer.
Field Hockey: The honor for field hockey goes to Rebecca Shinn. Shinn scored her first two goals of the season in a 4-1 win over New Egypt. It was the first win of the week for the Pirates, who went 2-0-1 in three games played.
Football: Our Athlete of the Week for football goes to Frank Stepnowski. The senior scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 54 seconds left in the first half to give the Pirates an 8-0 lead. The team would score 30 points in the second half to go on and beat Robbinsville 38-0 on homecoming.
Girl’s Cross Country: Yet another team honor this week. Girl’s cross country finished the batch meet portion of their season at 14-1 and won the Patriot Division crown.
Girl’s Soccer: In a 3-0 week that moved their record to 9-0-1, our Athlete of the Week goes to Maddie Ogden. Ogden has recorded eight shutouts on the season.
Girl’s Tennis: Our third team honor of the week goes to girl’s tennis. The Pirates not only won their first round playoff match against Glassboro, but also took down Holy Cross for the first time since 2010.
Girl’s Volleyball: This week’s Athlete of the Week for girl’s volleyball goes to senior Kelly Sigmund.
