The annual Palmyra Halloween Parade will take place on Sunday, October 30 at 7pm along Broad Street.
“We’re trying to get more support,” volunteer Dawn Freeland said. “We’re trying to get more people involved walking in the parade in costume.”
Freeland is helping to acquire sponsors and get participants to register for the parade.
“I am big fan of Halloween,” Freeland said. “Where I live in Riverton, they get ready for the parade right across the street from me. I have judged in previous years.”
Registration for the parade began Friday, September 16 and ends on Wednesday, October 12.
The night concludes at Legion Field, where prize winners will be announced for the parade categories; scary, funny, traditional, movie/TV character and most original/creative.
The committee planning the event, which also includes a house decorating contest and poster contest, is seeking sponsors and participants.

Volunteers are also needed to help plan the event and make sure it goes off without a hitch on the 30th.
“I felt like we need more involvement,” Freeland said. “Years ago, there were more companies involved that had floats or flatbed trucks in the parade. I want to see it be what it used to be when I was younger when I would go to watch it.”
The staging area for the parade is Riverton School and on Howard Street. Staging begins at 6pm. Judging begins at 6:30pm.

The parade route begins on Howard, makes a right onto Broad Street, proceeds down Broad Street, crosses over the train tracks at Park Avenue and concludes Legion Field.
There is still time to help the committee plan the event. The committee will meet four more times prior to October 30. Those dates are September 22, October 13, October 20 and October 27.
All meetings take place at 7pm on the dates listed above at the Palmyra Community Center.
