Legacy Indoor Range & Armory is coming to Cinnaminson in the spring of 2017. It is owned by two Cinnaminson residents; Melissa Deeney and Andrew Proctor.

The range will be located at 1501 Mainline Drive.

Steady progress is being made with various facets of the business, including an invite only investor’s dinner next Wednesday at the Riverton Country Club.

“If anyone is interested in being invited, they should let us know through the website and we will be in touch,” Deeney said.

When you go to the bottom of the webpage there is a link for those interested in becoming an investor.

One of the biggest concerns that Deeney and Proctor had when putting together their business plan for the range was not just the safety of the adults, but more importantly, the safety of children at the range.

Both owners have children who are involved in the sport of shooting, including archery, so safety is tantamount.

“We understand that personal safety is important when visiting a range, but when you bring your child with you, their safety almost becomes more important than your own,” Proctor said. “We want people to feel comfortable and safe bringing their children to the range to learn the proper way to handle firearms.”

The pair began the process of opening a range three years ago.

“It’s nice to see the results of all our research come to fruition,” Proctor said.

The pair mentioned that they had looked at other municipalities along the way before finding the ‘perfect’ spot in Cinnaminson, according to Deeney.

“When we went to other towns, we didn’t feel comfortable,” Proctor said. “We didn’t want to be viewed as outsiders coming in with a business. As two people involved in the sport of shooting, and two licensed instructors, we wanted to keep everything in the town in which we live.”

According to their research, applications for gun purchases have increased by 72% in the state and the numbers in Cinnaminson have almost matched that application for application.

“When we looked at the data, close to half of those applications were submitted by females,” Deeney said.

One of the biggest questions Deeney and Proctor have received since news broke of the Legacy Indoor Range & Armory is how can someone invest.

“We received so much interest from the public about investing in the range that we opened it up,” Deeney said. “We want those who are interested to know that they can have a stake in the business, while also using it to enhance their shooting skills.”

There will be discounts available to all military, fire, police and EMS personnel who can show valid ID. All membership information and future hours of operation can be found on the website.

Legacy Indoor Range & Armory is hoping to break ground sometime in January, weather permitting. The building will be constructed using tilt-up style, the first of its kind in Cinnaminson.

“The tilt-up construction style will hopefully make the process go quicker than traditional construction,” Deeney said. “Once we break ground we will be able to work through bad weather.”

The Legacy Indoor Range & Armory will also look to partner with local law enforcement agencies as a place for added training and practice for law enforcement officers.

Along the lines of practice, Proctor compared the sport of shooting to basketball, baseball and football.

“The sport of shooting is much like basketball, baseball and football. You want to get the muscle memory down in order to know how to properly use a firearm in the event of an emergency. So many people purchase firearms and never actually fire them. We want to provide proper training and practice so residents can use their firearm properly when needed. The last thing we want happening is an intruder breaks into your home and takes control of your firearm because you don’t know how to use it properly.”

The design of the range will be conducive to all levels of shooters from novice to expert.

Any and all questions can be directed to Deeney and Proctor via the Legacy Indoor Range & Armory website.
