Girl’s lacrosse falls to Rancocas Valley in a BCSL contest on Friday afternoon. The Pirates hosted the Red Devils in the hopes of carrying momentum over from Wednesday’s 11-5 win over Pennsauken.

Cinnaminson struggled with the draws and defensively in the first half Friday en route to an 19-4 loss to the Red Devils.

“What it came down to was the draw,” head coach Laura Curran said. “They’re very good at directing, being quick, they beat us a lot on the draw.”

“I think our defense is still a work in progress. We’re still trying to communicate more. Unfortunately, because we gave them a few inches, they were able to make the connection and it resulted in goals.”

The loss drops the Pirates to 5-3 on the season. The loss is the Pirates second in three games that includes a 16-6 loss to Northern Burlington from Monday, which ended a four-game win streak.

Rancocas Valley jumped out to an 11-0 lead before Cinnaminson was able to get on the board. Alexa Parrish scored first for the Pirates late in the first half.

The Red Devils added two more goals prior to halftime to lead 13-1.

The second half was a much better effort for Cinnaminson, who scored three goals and held the Red Devils explosive offense to just five goals.

“I told them not to give up,” Curran said. “We were definitely fighting for a win, but also goal differential as far as power ratings go. Ideally, we were trying to minimize the goal differential so that we could still get points even if we lost.”

All three of the Pirates goals in the second half came from Lexi Colella.

“When we came down here in the second half we were four for five on attack,” Curran said. “That’s a great percentage.”

Rancocas Valley did not let up, even with the clock running down, scoring with just two seconds left in the game en route to the 19-4 victory, their seventh of the season (7-2).

“What I want them to realize is that this is a 50-50 game,” Curran said. “After a goal, we could get the draw, they could get the draw. They need to play until the final whistle. A full game is 50 minutes.”

Cinnaminson returns to the field on Tuesday, April 19 with a 3:30pm road contest at Maple Shade.
