Girl’s lacrosse saw its four game win streak come to an end on Monday afternoon with a 16-6 loss to Northern Burlington. The Pirates are now 4-2 on the season.

“I’m going to keep reminding them of the good things they do well,” head coach Laura Curran said. “Whatever we did well today we want to keep moving forward and continue to do those things well in the next game. Even though today wasn’t our best, we did have four wins and they were hard-fought wins.”

The Greyhounds opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game and never looked back.

Northern Burlington built a three-goal lead at 7-4 with 3:05 left before halftime, but the Pirates scored two straight to pull the game within one goal at 7-6.

The Greyhounds took the wind out of the Pirates sails with two goals in the final 29 seconds of the first half to take a 9-6 lead into the break.

“I think we just didn’t continue that intensity into the second half,” Curran said. “Coming off a great win on Friday, our spirits were so high, I’m not sure why we couldn’t connect today. The turnovers resulted in giving Northern a second and third chance at attack.”

The second half was all Greyhounds as Northern Burlington scored seven goals en route to the 16-6 victory, their fifth of the season, as the Pirates struggled to possess the ball and get shots on goal.

“They were able to control possession and Emily (Brennan) was making great saves, when we would get it down in attack we’d throw it away or have a poor shot,” Curran said. “If you turn the ball over, that’s ok, but you need to get the ball back and turn it into a positive.”

Julia Averill led the Pirates with four goals. Lexi Colella and Katie O’Connor each had one.

Cinnaminson returns to the field on Wednesday, April 13 at 3:45pm with a game at Pennsauken.

“We definitely gotta come out with intensity. It always come down to the draw and we were successful once I made the switch in the circle.” Curran said.

“They were so pumped up and ready for Delran and it wasn’t there today. We have to light the fire and be ready for a good team. They don’t care what the score is or who they are playing, they always come out with intensity.”
