Cinnaminson faced the BCIT-Medford Jaguars at home tonight and sent them packing with a loss. The Lady Pirates triumphed with a 69-20 victory, making their record 4-2.
Cinnaminson started out strong, scoring 22 points in the first 8 minutes of play. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 22-05 in favor of Cinnaminson. Five girls were able to score at least one point in the first quarter.
“It was nice to see our shooting get going,” head coach Bret Jenkins said. “It’s been a little bit since we shot well, so hopefully that creates some confidence we can carry over into our upcoming games.”
The win is also a confidence-booster for the girls after their loss yesterday against Woodrow Wilson and last week against Gloucester.
“We had two really tough losses. We were right in there and lost them. This game last year is when we really started clicking. We were 1-4 when we played them last year and we started going. We are in a little bit better shape than last year. We wanted to have this game to be the one where we started to click too,” Jenkins said.
The offense’s momentum did not stop in the second quarter. The Lady Pirates netted another 16 points before halftime. The Pirates’ defense came out strong as well.
“Every game, defense is something we want to focus on. We were pretty solid on defense tonight,” Jenkins said.
The solid effort on defense by the Pirates resulted in forced turnovers by the Jaguars. BCIT-Medford was only able to score two points in the second quarter, making the score 39-7 at halftime.
The Jaguars were never able to catch up to the Pirates in the second half due to Cinnaminson’s high-scoring offense. At the end of the third quarter Cinnaminson was winning by 4o points with a score of 57-17. They cinched the game with a final score of 69-20.
The Pirates’ performance with three’s improved today. Senior Marisa Dileo, junior Tori Robinson and freshmen Maddie Parrish were all able to score at least 2 three’s tonight.
The large lead allowed Jenkins to play girls off the bench. All 12 girls who dressed for varsity today scored.
“Today we started off quickly and got off to a nice little lead. I think it gave everyone confidence, even the girls who came in and subbed in,” Jenkins said. “Once someone knocks down one shot then they have confidence, and they can keep it going for the rest of the game.”
Marisa Dileo, the top scorer for the last three games, netted 25 points today and spoke to Cinn City Sports about the Pirates’ victory.
“Everyone was able to score today. We hit some threes and made most of our layups. Having a large amount of people score today is what made us so successful,” she said. “Getting lots of different people allowed us to stay fresh and not get tired.”
Dileo said the Pirates’ success tonight is something they’d like to carry with them for the rest of the season.
“We knew we had to win today. Coming off two tough losses set us back, but we knew if we won today we would be heading in a positive direction for the next couple games,” she said.
On Thursday, Cinnaminson will host the Florence Flashes at 5 PM. Cinn City Sports will have coverage of the game. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for live updates throughout the game.
