In their doubleheader on June 30, Cinnaminson Elite faced teams Blue Chill and Red to go 1-1 for the night and 4-4 for the season.

In Cinnaminson’s matchup against Chill, both teams started off with points on the board. By the top of the second inning, the score was 2-1, Chill winning.

Both teams were able to get hits off and girls out on the other team, making it a close game until the fourth inning, when Cinnaminson would score their last run of the game.

The score was 5-3 in the top of the fifth with Blue Chill winning. Chill would score 3 more runs, making the final score 8-3 to secure the win.

However, Cinnaminson Elite does not focus on the last game’s outcome when preparing for the next.

“We knew we wanted them to come out and have a strong showing in the second game,” head coach Tracy Bart said.

Their game against Red appeared to be an even matchup as well. Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning, when Lineman would run in for the first point of the game.

Each offensive inning resulted in at least one point for Red or Cinnaminson after the third, meaning there was no clear winner until the last play.

A highlight of the game for Cinnaminson was in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score at 4-3, Red winning. Runyen hit a line drive, batting in Ferris and Lineman to make the score 5-4, Cinnaminson.

In the bottom of the sixth, Cinnaminson snagged the lead once again by scoring 2 runs, making the score 7-6.

The win relied on the girls’ defensive play in the infield and outfield in the top of the seventh.

Catcher Ashley Klein had home plate on lockdown, snagging pop-ups from the air and keeping her eye on Red’s on-base runners.

Another highlight of the game was an out Macnair managed by flipping the ball to second base in the top of the seventh to get the third out.

The final score of Cinnaminson’s matchup against Red would be 7-6.

“It definitely builds their confidence,” Bart said. “They’re making some really nice plays and some really nice at-bats. They look good.”

The overall goal of Cinnaminson Elite’s participation in SJCSL is to improve the girls’ skills for their regular season by putting them against more-experienced players.

“When you watch college-level girls play, they’re more aggressive,” Bart added. “You have to be more on your toes. I absolutely think it’s going to help them, 100 percent.”

The doubleheader Wednesday was the second of the season for the Elite and final one on their schedule.

The Elite team does not play again until Wednesday, July 6 against the Shamrocks at 6:30pm at Wood Park due to the July 4th holiday.

They have four regular season games remaining before the playoffs begin on July 20.
