On June 17, the Cinnaminson Elite softball team played their final regular season game in the South Jersey Collegiate Softball League against the Shamrocks. The final score of the game was 8-0 in favor of the Shamrocks.
During the first two innings, the girls struggled to make clean plays by dropping catches and missing grounders. The Shamrocks had a lead of 5-0 by the third inning.
“They have to come out strong from the start and play all seven innings,” head coach Tracy Bart said. “It doesn’t matter if you make one mistake one time, you have to regroup and pick it up the next time.”
A highlight of the game was a triple play turned by Cinnaminson Elite in the top of the fourth to end the inning for the Shamrocks.
Riece Onorato was also a defensive stand-out last night. She played in left field for the first four innings and pitched for the remainder of the game.
In both positions, she secured outs for her team, either by catching pop-ups or striking out Shamrocks.
Cinnaminson Elite was able to prevent the Shamrocks from racking up anymore runs until the sixth inning. The Shamrocks scored 3 runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-0.
Despite making contact with the ball and getting girls on base, Cinnaminson Elite did not score any runs tonight.
The game ended after the sixth inning due to a 90-minute time limit.
This game makes Cinnaminson Elite’s record 4-6-1 for the regular season. Cinnaminson Elite will be making their debut in the South Jersey Collegiate Softball League’s playoffs this summer.
Bart said the girls are excited and ready to win.
“It’s a fresh start. It’s like a new season going into playoffs. Anything is possible,” she added.
