The Cinnaminson Elite softball team played its fourth game of the young season in the SJCSL on Wednesday night at Wood Park and came away with an 11-2 win over the Blue Chill to move to 2-2.

“They’re doing some very nice things in the field. Even though we threw the ball around a bit, it was only a difference of a catch and a tag on some of those plays and that will come,” head coach Tracy Bart said.

“We can hang with anybody in this league and I think that surprises a lot of the kids. I think we can hang with anyone and it’s gotta make the kids feel good.”

Elite played its first-ever game last week, dropping an 11-1 decision to the Blue Chill before rebounding in the nightcap of a doubleheader with a 12-5 win over Red.

Then, on Sunday, Elite fell to the Shamrocks by a score of 5-4.

Wednesday night was an opportunity for the Elite team to rebound against the team that handed them a loss in their first-ever contest in the SJCSL.

The girls answered and then some by scoring in three of the six innings they stepped to the plate.

“I think it’s definitely a comfort thing. Coming in here, we weren’t sure what to expect,” Bart said. “It’s definitely a comfort level after getting a couple games under their belt. The first game they were a little timid in the box. They’re coming along well.”

Elite took a 3-0 lead in the first inning all with two outs on RBI hits from Maddison Figiel and Brenna MacNair.

The Blue Chill answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning on a squeeze play.

The Blue Chill got it as close as 3-2 on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third before Cinnaminson would explode for six runs in the top of the fourth.

Elite added two more runs in the top of the fifth to make it an 11-2 game. The Blue Chill put runners on second and third to open the bottom half of the inning, but pitcher Rebecca Martino beared down to get the next three batters without allowing a run.

“That gives her (Martino) huge confidence,” Bart said. “That’s only gonna help her come the spring season. She had solid defense behind her. Her pitches were working and she was pitching with a huge lead, which gives you a lot of confidence in the circle.”

The game went just six innings due to a 90 minute time limit.

The win moved the Elite to 2-2 on the season. Cinnaminson returns to the field on Tuesday, June 21 at 8:15pm against the Black Panthers at Wood Park.

The majority of the Black Panthers team is made up of girls who play their collegiate softball at RCBC (formerly BCC).
