The defending BCSL Patriot Division champion Boy’s Track and Field team will look to make it two titles in a row when they begin their regular season schedule on Saturday, April 4 at Maple Shade for the Hall of Fame Relays.
The division title in 2014 was the first for the boys in two years and head coach Dan Fourney is looking forward to what the schedule holds in 2015.
“We beat a very good Holy Cross team for the division. We had a team that listened and was working hard,” Coach Fourney said.
Fourney noted that 2015’s competition for the division title looks like it will come down to Cinnaminson and Holy Cross again, with both teams having excellent talent from top to bottom.
There were 15 seniors who graduated after the 2014 season and this year’s squad has just four returners in the senior class, but Fourney explained that last year’s freshman class was very strong, led by Steve Liu.
“Even though we’re young, we have quality athletes. The four seniors we have are all pretty good leaders. I don’t even know if we need the younger guys to step up. The best teams that we’ve had, they kind of seem to run themselves. They don’t wait for us to tell them to do things.”
Fourney is looking for the shot put event to be one of the strongest for the boys team in 2015. The groups is led by Ryan Addlesberger, who finished first in the Emerging Elite division at the New Balance National Championships. With a throw of 55-8, Addlesberger finished fourth at the State, Group 2 meet in 2014 as a junior.
Addlesberger will be joined again by Keith Swartley in the shot put.
The triple jump will also be an event to look forward to with Liu and Emmanuel Udotong leading the way. Udotong outjumped Liu earlier this year, narrowly missing the outdoor school record while jumping indoors.
Fourney had some final thoughts on the 2014 season:
“We had a couple of real good performers at the shot put and the javelin at the state meet of champions last year. The guys all seemed to peak at the right time. That was good to see. That is always our goal; to have you perform at your best at the end of the season.”
The 2015 BCSL meet will take place on Saturday, May 9 at Northern Burlington Regional High School.
