Tonight, wrestling will travel to take on West Deptford in the second round of the South, Group 2 Tournament with the match set to begin at 7pm. Here is our second round playoff preview.

#3 Cinnaminson: 16-3

#2 West Deptford: 11-7

How They Got Here

Cinnaminson took down Patriot Division rival Delran 44-18 in the opening round of the playoffs Monday night despite losing two of the first three bouts.

The first round playoff win over the Bears was a far cry from the Pirates victory earlier in the season. Cinnaminson needed to win the final three bouts to take the match from Delran 37-33 in stunning come-from-behind fashion.

West Deptford was awarded a bye in the first round of this year’s team tournament. The Eagles finished the year in third place in the Colonial-Liberty Division behind winner Haddonfield and second-place Collingswood. Haddonfield is the four-seed in the South, Group 2 bracket.

The Eagles have won five straight matches coming into tonight’s playoff contest. Their last loss came to South Jersey power Paulsboro, 49-6, on January 27. They picked up six points with decisions by Cameron Shields at 160 and Jason Carter at 182.

Schedule Comparisons

Both of these teams lost to SJ2 one-seed Collingswood this season.

Both teams beat Group 5 Shawnee with ease.

The only difference this year with comparable opponents is that Cinnaminson defeated Haddonfield, while West Deptford lost to the Bulldogs.

Previous Meetings

These two teams met during the regular season last year with Cinnaminson picking up a 32-27 victory.

Three wins in a row by Ryan Teague (technical fall), Ethan Schuler and Anthony Pencook helped seal the tight victory for the Pirates along with pins in the upper weights by Tom Halecki and Keith Swartley.

Cinnaminson last lost to West Deptford in the 2013-2014 season, 43-29, during a regular season match.

Last Season

Cinnaminson won the Central, Group 1 sectional title last season before falling to Paulsboro 46-11 in the first round of the State, Group 1 Championship.

West Deptford lost in the second round of the South, Group 2 Tournament last year as the four-seed to eventual section champion #1 Buena by a score of 35-26.
