We continue today with the newest feature of the site, taking a look back at the top five girl’s lacrosse wins of 2015. The varsity squad enjoyed a 12-6 record in 2015 after struggling in 2014 and made an appearance in the South, Group 1 Tournament. As we have in our other editions of this feature, we will work backwards from five to one on the list.
5. Pirates Defeat Northern Burlington 11-9 on April 15
In what was their fifth straight win during a six-game winning streak, and fifth of the season, the Pirates visited Northern Burlington and came home with an 11-9 victory over the Greyhounds (13-8). Goalie Emily Brennan made 12 saves, while Grace Shallow led the way with six goals. Morgan Gares and Kimmy Stefanelli each scored two and Shannon Forbes added one goal. The win was the first of two for the Pirates against Northern Burlington this season. That second win will make an appearance on this list.
4. Pirates Wallop New Egypt 21-11 on May 1
Coming off a three-game losing streak in which the Pirates dropped games to Rancocas Valley, Holy Cross and Moorestown Friends, Cinnaminson took down New Egypt by a score of 21-11 on May 1 to begin a new winning streak on Senior Night. The Pirates were paced in the scoring column by Forbes, who netted six goals. Shallow followed with five goals and Stefanelli added four. Julia Averill had three and Gares, Jenny Le and Kelsey Treharne each had one goal apiece. The win would be the first of five in a row for the Pirates, their second lengthy winning streak of the season.
3. Pirates Beat Mainland 11-6 on April 6
For their first victory of the season, the Pirates took down Mainland 11-6 on the road. Four players scored two goals apiece as the Pirates evened their record at 1-1 after a season-opening loss to Holy Cross. The Pirates had lost to Holy Cross 9-8 to open their schedule and could have easily let this game against Mainland get away from them. They responded to adversity and put 2014 behind them en route to a six-game winning streak.
2. Pirates Roll Maple Shade 16-8 on May 14
In their final game of the season, the Pirates took down Maple Shade on the road by a score of 16-8. This game helped the Pirates end the 2015 season on a strong note following an opening-round playoff loss to Haddonfield 12-8. Shallow led all scorers with six goals and Averill followed with three for the Pirates. Shallow’s six goals helped her eclipse the 100-goal mark for her career in her final game at Cinnaminson.
1. Pirates Outlast Northern Burlington 13-12 on May 6
In what is by far the best win of the 2015 season for girl’s lacrosse, the program took down Northern Burlington for a second time on May 6. The Pirates won the game 13-12 and it was an absolute thriller from start to finish. Shallow again led all scorers with six goals and she was followed by Forbes with four, Averill with two and Katie O’Connor with one. Cinnaminson led 7-6 at halftime after a see-saw first half, but the second half was a wild ride. After a back-and-forth battle early in the second half, the Pirates opened a 12-9 advantage with under six minutes remaining, but Northern Burlington was not done. The Greyhounds scored the next three goals to tie with just over three minutes left. Forbes scored the game-winner with 1:50 left on the clock. Brennan made some incredible saves down the stretch to preserve the victory for the Pirates, their second of the season against the Greyhounds.
We continue our series of the top games of the spring 2015 season on Wednesday when we take a look at the top five boy’s tennis wins of the 2015 season.
