The Pirates swim team will open the state tournament tonight with a 6:50pm first round playoff meet against Brick Memorial at the BCC pool in Pemberton.
#5 Cinnaminson: 8-4
#8 Brick Memorial: 5-1-2
This will be the first time in the history of the program that the Pirates will host a playoff meet.
How They Got Here
Cinnaminson used a turnaround season in 2015-2016 to reach the state team playoffs after enduring an uncharacteristic 5-7 season in 2014-2015.
Finishing with an 8-4 record, the Pirates defeated all of the co-ed squads on their schedule this year. This includes Holy Cross, Delran, Northern Burlington and Pemberton.
Their four losses were split between Moorestown (twice) and Rancocas Valley (twice). Moorestown is in this bracket as the two-seed and received a double-bye into the third round (February 8).
The Pirates were in the pool two days in a row Friday and Saturday as they competed in the BCSL Meet and the SJSCA Invitational.
In what was a playoff atmosphere, the Pirates put up a strong showing at the BCSL Meet on Friday night. Cinnaminson won six gold medals, 17 silver medals and one bronze medal. The Pirates also came away with 10 all-county selections (five first team and five second) to go along with two relay records and three first place finishes.
Brick Memorial finished their regular season on a three-meet win streak with wins over Toms River South, Neptune and Jackson Liberty.
The Mustangs tied two meets this year against Jackson Memorial and Southern. Their lone loss came against Toms River North, 99-71.
Brick Memorial finished fifth at the Ocean County Tournament in January with 181 team points. Dylan McKelvey was the lone swimmer to win an event, the 100 Backstroke, for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs finished 10th at the Shore Conference Tournament with 91 team points on January 29 in a meet that was won for the 26th straight time by Christian Brothers. The Mustangs did not have any first place finishes at the meet.
