In just their second game of the season, the Pirates fell to defending Patriot softball champion Bordentown by a score of 6-0. Both games have been played at home, which has not helped Cinnaminson in the win column.
This is the second loss of the season and the Pirates have scored just one run total this year.
In both games, the Pirates have gone down 2-0 in the first inning, but refused to hang their heads.
“The game’s not won in one inning or one at-bat. We try to reinforce that. In any inning, an opportunity can present itself and we have to take advantage of it,” head coach Tracy Bart said following the loss to the Scotties.
It is early in the season, but Bart knows that offense and defense will help you win games. She also knows that the defense needs to be sharper behind pitcher Shannon Profy.
Profy pitched well again on Tuesday despite allowing six runs. At least one of the runs was unearned due to errors.
“We have to eliminate the errors to be competitive. Shannon throws a nice game and we have to make the plays behind her. That’s the name of the game.”
The Pirates recorded just three hits in the loss, while striking out 12 times. The offense has been dormant for the first two games of the season.
“Every day we work on the same thing; offense, defense and situational play. We spent more time offensively last week because we struggled with hitting against Northern (Burlington). We struggled again with hitting today. We will continue to work on offense until it starts to click,” Bart said.
The Pirates play their first away game of the season on Thursday, April 9 when they visit Pemberton at 3:45pm.
“We are going to go back to the drawing board offensively and we are going to go back to the drawing board defensively and we are just going to continue to prepare and get better each and every day,” Bart said.
