In the final game prior to the state tournament, the Pirates softball team fell at home on Thursday to New Egypt by a score of 13-1.

Cinnaminson will travel to take on Spotswood Saturday, May 16 at 11am in the first round of the Central, Group 2 Tournament. The Pirates are the 13-seed and Spotswood is the 4-seed.

New Egypt built a 5-0 lead before the Pirates could plate a run, which came in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Warriors would add a sixth run in the top of the fifth and then seven more in the top of the sixth. Cinnaminson needed to score three runs to move the game to the seventh inning, but failed to score in the bottom of the inning, thus ending the game.

The Pirates have played extremely well of late, winning of their last six games. In fact, the loss today snapped a five-game win streak for the Pirates.

“New Egypt is a good team,” head coach Tracy Bart said. “I think in the first couple of innings we played solid ‘d’. Their pitcher was a good pitcher. We got some quality at-bats today that are going to help us going into Saturday. We knew they were going to be a good team and we took advantage of that to prepare for Saturday.”

One of those wins was a 1-0 victory over Maple Shade in extra innings. Shannon Profy recorded 5 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits in the win. It was just the fourth loss of the season at the time for Maple Shade.

“I would say defensively it was our best game of the season. In terms of getting a win and completing a game, it was one of our best this season,” Bart said.

Cinnaminson’s next game is Saturday, May 16 at 11am in the first round of the playoffs against Spotswood, a team they beat in the playoffs last season.

“We need solid ‘d’ from our defense and good at-bats at the plate,” Bart said about Saturday’s playoff game. “We talk about playing our game and at this point, seeds don’t mean anything. On any given day, anybody can beat anybody. It’s a new season. Records are zero-zero. Everyone has the same opportunity.”
