In our most recent Senior Spotlight, we had the chance to chat with boy’s lacrosse player Patrick Morton.
Cinn City Sports: College commitment?
Morton: I am attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall.
CCS: Major?
Morton: My major is currently Undeclared Engineering, but I am planning on pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering.
CCS: Do you plan to continue playing lacrosse, or another sport, in college?
Morton: I am committed to play lacrosse at RPI. I am excited to continue my lacrosse career at the collegiate level. Also, I am thankful for the opportunity to play the sport I love while receiving an amazing education.
CCS: Favorite class at CHS?
Morton: My favorite class at CHS was Chemistry with Mr. Perekupka. I love science, so it was both challenging and enjoyable. Plus, the labs were always interesting.
CCS: Favorite movie?
Morton: It’s a tie between two totally different movies. My favorites are Up and The Godfather.
CCS: Favorite song and/or artist?
Morton: My favorite artist is Awolnation. My favorite song is Sandstorm by Darude.
CCS: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Morton: I like to play pick-up soccer games with my friends or just hang out. If nothing is going on, I like to play wall ball or shoot around to improve my game.
CCS: What does it mean to you to be part of a growing boy’s lacrosse program at CHS?
Morton: It is cool knowing that we were the first group of guys to play for the varsity program at CHS. It’s not easy to get a new program off the ground, but my teammates and I have overcome a lot of the growing pains. There is nothing better than driving past SAC or Wood Park and seeing a bunch of little kids playing lacrosse. I like knowing that the lacrosse program is growing throughout the entire town. I am excited to see how much the lacrosse program will grow over the next couple of years.
CCS: What part of your game has improved the most over the years?
Morton: The part of my game that has improved the most is my overall Lacrosse IQ and my stick skills. When I first started in eighth grade, I could not catch or throw and I had no idea what I was doing. Over the years, I have worked hard to improve my stick skills and gained a better understanding of the game.
CCS: What, or who, got you interested in lacrosse?
Morton: My friend, Colin Wharton, introduced me to the game of lacrosse. He convinced me to try it out and I became addicted to the sport.
CCS: Did you play any other sports prior to starting lacrosse?
Morton: I wrestled, played football, and played baseball prior to starting lacrosse. When I got to high school, I stopped playing football and baseball and focused on lacrosse and wrestling.
CCS: What is your favorite aspect of the game?
Morton: I love the fast tempo of the game. It keeps me from getting bored.
