We start the final review of the 2015-2016 winter sports season with boy’s basketball. The Pirates opened the South, Group 2 Tournament on Tuesday by hosting Cedar Creek. Cinnaminson picked up a first round win, 55-45, to advance to the second round.

On Thursday, the Pirates traveled to Woodstown for a matchup of the #4 and #5 teams in the SJ2 bracket. Cinnaminson could not build on a 10-point first quarter lead, falling to the Wolverines 51-48 to end the season. The Pirates finish with a 19-8 mark.

Girl’s basketball also opened the playoffs on Tuesday, dominating #16 Buena as the one-seed, 60-16. On Thursday, the Pirates hosted Lower Cape May, the SJ2 defending champion, and advanced with a 40-29 victory.

Saturday’s semifinal game against Haddonfield was the end of the line for the Pirates, who fell by a score of 55-43. Marisa DiLeo led the Pirates in scoring all three games, finishing her career with 1,074 points and a school record for threes in a career with 135. Girl’s basketball ends the season at 22-7, tying the program record for wins in a season.

Winter track competed in one final meet on Tuesday when three athletes went to Eastern States. Mike Ungvarsky finished 4th in the 3200 with a time of 9:29.52. It was the third time in 10 days that Ungvarsky broke the school record.

The only other team in action this week was wrestling as heavyweight Keith Swartley went to Atlantic City for the state tournament. Swartley began the tournament at 33-0, but suffered his first loss of the season in the pre-quarterfinal round to David Brown of Union by a 2-1 score.

Swartley then went to wrestlebacks on Saturday and won his first two bouts against Michael Kellstrom of Chatham 5-1 and Kevin Doran of Cranford 1-0. Swartley lost his third wrestleback of the day to Anthony Porcaro of Sayreville 4-3 in the first tiebreaker. Porcaro was the one-seed in the top portion of the heavyweight bracket.
