The Pirates Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 8 has arrived. Find out who takes home the honors.

Field Hockey: In what turned out to be their final game of the season, the field hockey team dropped a third round Central, Group 1 game to Haddonfield Tuesday. The honor this week goes to Lauren Friedrich. Friedrich made 21 saves in the loss to Haddonfield.

Girl’s Cross Country: The honor this week goes to Haley Adams. Adams finished 9th overall at the Group 2 sectional race held at Delsea Regional on Saturday. The squad finished third overall as a team and will advance to the state meet.

Boy’s Cross Country: This week the honor goes to two runners, Mike Ungvarsky and Justin Arnold. To qualify for states as an individual you must finish in the top ten at the sectional race. Ungvarsky finished second and Arnold finished ninth to advance to the state meet.

Boy’s Soccer: The athlete of the week for boy’s soccer goes to CJ Zimmer. Zimmer scored two goals this week, one of them a game winner to lead the team to the third round of the South, Group 2 Tournament. Zimmer’s other goal was on course to be a game winner, but Pinelands tied the opening round contest with 1.2 seconds left on a penalty kick. The Pirates eventually advanced on penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw.

Girl’s Soccer: In a week that saw the girl’s soccer team outscore its opponents 10-1, the honor goes to Miranda Sackner, who scored four of those goals. Sackner picked up her third hat trick of the season in the 7-0 win over Pemberton and scored just 44 seconds into the contest against Middle Township en route to a 3-1 win.

Girl’s Volleyball: The final athlete of the week for the girl’s volleyball 2015 season goes to three players; Christina Strough, Ally Herron and Joana Ostrowski. All three had a strong showing in the team’s first round loss to Rumson-Fair Haven in the Group 2 Tournament on Tuesday, 2-0.

Football: This week’s honor for football goes to Devon Taylor. Taylor caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Shaun Davilla and intercepted two Joe Benson passes early in the second half to lead the Pirates to a 45-34 victory over previously undefeated Pemberton in a Liberty Division contest.
