Coming into the 2015 spring season, girl’s track and field was prepared for some ups and downs, but the season turned out to have more ups than downs.

The program had only four seniors this year, which meant that a lot of young girls would have their chance to prove themselves on the track or in the field events. The end result was pretty impressive; a 4-0-1 record, a tie for first in the Patriot Division with Delran and second place in the Patriot at the BCSL meet.

“Like I said, we only had four seniors, two of which were injured for the whole season,” Moore said. “One of which scored points on a regular basis and the other one, this was her first varsity year getting a letter. We had eight second team athletes and they are all freshmen and sophomores. If we are not going to take first, we will take a whole bunch of second and thirds and niclle and dime you to death.”

The one tie this season came against Delran High School, whom the Pirates lost to in 2014. When asked about his squad’s most impressive win of the season, head coach Derek Moore said, “I can’t say that we had one because the most important one we tied. That was probably the one where we performed our best. the other ones weren’t close. Where last year we lost by one point to Delran.”

Quite a few girls set personal records this year in various meets, but Coach Moore spoke about the 4×800 team that set a school record.

“Our 4×800 meter team broke the school record this year. All of them are underclassmen. There is one junior one sophomore two freshmen.”

The 4×800 meter team consists of Haley Adams and Fiona Flynn, both freshmen; Andrea Torres, a junior; and Olivia Rocks, a junior.

The girls had a strong showing at the sectional meet in 2015, sending a handful of girls to the state meet.

As for his final thoughts on the 2015 season, Moore said, “I was definitely happy with the way it ended. As far as our progress on being such a young team, I am looking forward to the next few years. We have returners who are hard workers and have a lot of potential. They can build upon their success from this year as juniors and seniors.”
