On a night that featured the contributions of the girl’s soccer seniors during their four years with the program, the team went out and took down New Egypt 7-1 to end the regular season.

“It’s a hectic night, but it’s a great night,” head coach Matt Digney said. “The girls are half focused on soccer, half focused on the other stuff, but they responded well. They came right out of the gate, took advantage of their opportunities, and I’m proud of them. They did a good job tonight.”

The Pirates (10-5-2) received goals from seven different players in the victory, including three seniors. New Egypt falls to 8-10-2 with the loss. The Warriors only goal of the game came on a penalty kick.

“We’ve talked about gaining momentum. We had a bit of a rough patch there with Delran (4-3 Loss), Moorestown (3-2 Loss) and Holy Cross (2-1 OT Loss in Coaches Cup), but as of now, we’re playing pretty good. I like what we’re doing. I feel good about going in Monday.”

It took the Pirates almost 16 minutes to net the first goal of the night, but once they did, the goals came quickly. Sophomore Lauren Wahl put Cinnaminson on the board with her first varsity goal at 14:49 of the first half.

The opening goal was followed by Jamie McHugh at 12:47, Anna Saginario at 10:48 and then Fiona Flynn at 10:29. Miranda Sackner picked up the fifth goal of the first half for the Pirates with 5:30 to go before the break.

New Egypt picked up their lone goal of the game on a penalty kick less than two minutes into the second stanza.

Cinnaminson answered with two more goals, from seniors Alex Kane and Callie Schweizer to give girl’s soccer the 7-1 victory. Keeping with the theme of the last couple of games, the Pirates defense played very well tonight, limiting the Warriors chances to really just the penalty kick.

“If you asked me two weeks ago, I probably would have said our offense,” Digney said. “Now, we are playing really good, solid defense. I think our biggest issue is putting everything together. Having a couple good offensive flows and then being able to keep the ball out of the net.”

The #3 Pirates begin the playoffs on Monday, November 2 at 2pm when #14 Pemberton comes to town for a first round match in the South, Group 2 Tournament. Cinnaminson defeated Pemberton 4-0 last Friday in the lone meeting between the two teams this season.

“It’s tough to say who will do what as far as make adjustments or continue what we did,” Digney said. “It’s never easy to play a team so close, only a week apart. We’ll say it’s a brand new game. It’s on our field this time. Anything can happen. Don’t go in there thinking that we’re just going to beat them again.”
