As we keep a watchful eye on the weather today we bring you the Gameday Focus for girl’s lacrosse vs Pennsauken. This is the second meeting between the teams this year. Take an in-depth look at this contest prior to our game coverage this afternoon.
When: Wednesday, May 4 at 3:45pm.
Where: Cinnaminson High School.
Cinnaminson: 7-6, 5-6 BCSL
Pennsauken: 3-11, 1-9 BCSL
The Pirates return to the field looking for their eighth win the season and second of the year over neighbor Pennsauken.
Cinnaminson has lost two in a row against Delran (13-11) and Northern Burlington (15-8). Their last win came by a 12-6 score against New Egypt last week.
“The girls are definitely needing to get back in the win column,” head coach Laura Curran said. “They played great against both Delran and Northern, so to not come out on top was disappointing.”
“If we come out with intensity, follow our game plan and play like we did in the past few games, we’ll feel confident about winning against Pennsauken.”
It is crunch time right now as the cutoff date for the playoffs is approaching fast. Girl’s lacrosse has just five games left in the regular season, including today’s contest.
“I reminded them yesterday there isn’t much time left,” Curran said. “The cutoff date for playoffs is next Friday, which means the next 5 games are crucial if we want to make any last minute movements in the group. Every second of every game counts and in the games we are the favorite, we have to make sure we win in order to get the points.”
Since the Pirates reeled off four wins in a row to move to 4-1 they have played to 3-5 record. At one point during the 3-5 stretch the Pirates traded wins and losses every game for a 3-3 mark.
“I try to stay as positive as I can and remind them of the great things that they continue to do each day,” Curran said.
“When we have a good transition, score off of a play, or shutdown an opposing team’s best player, it really fires up the rest of the team, so it’s important we always celebrate those small victories even if the end outcome isn’t a win.”
The last time these two teams met the Pirates picked up an 11-5 win and it came after a loss to Northern Burlington.
“I think since we beat them by only 6 last time, the girls know not to underestimate them a second time,” Curran said. “We will be ready for them defensively, now knowing their best players and how they look to score, as well as continuing with our offensive game plan which is to possess and be smart, but always looking for those 1v1 opportunities which were available last time.”
The Indians come in with a 3-11 overall record and a 1-9 mark in the BCSL. Their three wins this year have come against Burlington City, Williamstown and Maple Shade (their lone BCSL win).
Pennsauken is in the midst of a five-game losing streak, scoring no more than six goals in any one game and a total of 15 in the five games.
During the losing streak, the Indians have allowed double-digit goals in all five games and have not allowed less than 14 goals in any of the five games.
Cinnaminson is 7-0 against Pennsauken dating back to the 2013 season and including the first meeting this season.
