11th straight match

The first of four games Cinn City Sports is covering today features boy’s tennis vs Burlington Township from Wood Park. This means that the match is the subject of our first Gameday Focus of the day. Let’s take an in-depth look at this non-league match.

When: Monday, May 9 at 3:30pm.

Where: Wood Park.

Cinnaminson: 10-2

Burlington Township: 3-9

Boy’s tennis returns to the courts at Wood Park after going 3-0 last week with wins over Delran (3-2) and Florence (5-0) and a forfeit victory over Burlington City.

The three victories moved the Pirates record to 10-2 overall and 7-0 in the Freedom Division. Since starting the season with losses to Moorestown (5-0) and Rancocas Valley (3-2) the Pirates have won 10 matches in a row.

In what could be the team’s signature win of the season, so far, Cinnaminson took down Delran by a 3-2 score last week. It is the only meeting of the regular season between the Pirates and the Bears.

Delran took two regular season matches from Cinnaminson in 2015 as the teams competed in the same division.

The win over Delran occurred with third singles Tyler Collins, first doubles Steve Chao/Ronnie Runquist and second doubles George Rider/James Merget picking up the victories for the Pirates.

It was just the fourth loss of the season for the Bears.

Cinnaminson and Burlington Township did not meet in 2015. The last time the two teams met was in 2014 and the Pirates came away with a 4-1 victory.

Burlington Township comes into today’s non-league match with a 3-9 record.

Two of their wins have come by 5-0 scores over Burlington City (forfeit victory) and Pemberton. Their third win came by a 3-2 score over Trenton Catholic.

Eight of their nine losses this year have come by 5-0 scores. Their lone loss that was not a 5-0 score came against Florence by a score of 4-1.

The Falcons opened the 2016 season on a four-match losing streak. Their longest losing streak of the season was five matches in a row, which the Falcons recently snapped with their 3-2 win over Trenton Catholic.
