Cinnaminson: 4-3, 2-0

Pemberton: 3-3, 1-2

It has been an up-and-down start to the season for the Pirates baseball team, but their play in Patriot Division games has been stellar.

Cinnaminson plays one of the toughest schedules around, which is indicative of their 4-3 record. They have lost to Northern Burlington, Haddonfield and Lenape this year; all teams that have had recent postseason success.

The Pirates four wins have come against Delran, Bordentown, Florence and Rancocas Valley.

The win over Delran came via a 1-0 score. The win over Rancocas Valley came via a 10-4 score, but the game was much closer before the Pirates broke it open with a three-run fifth inning.

In both of the divisional wins, the Pirates received complete game efforts on the mound from senior lefty Brandon Staub. In the win over Rancocas Valley, the Pirates received another complete game on the mound from Jack Conville.

Cinnaminson is coming into today fresh off a 16-4 drubbing of Florence in five innings. Freshman Craig Horsley got his first varsity start on the mound and first varsity win.

Horsley went four innings, striking out three and walking four. Anthony Lavala went 2-for-3 with two doubles and Christian Massara went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Pemberton enters today’s divisional contest with a 3-3 record overall and a 1-2 mark in the Patriot.

The Hornets opened their season with a 22-12 loss to Pennsauken, but rebounded with a 2-1 win over Holy Cross for their lone Patriot win so far.

Pemberton’s ace, Matt Stoots, has thrown two complete games this year, winning both. His second came against Northern Burlington.

In a Patriot contest against Delran on Tuesday, Stoots went six innings in a 6-1 loss. He allowed six runs, three of them earned, on eight hits. He walked eight and struck out seven.

The other Patriot loss for Pemberton this year came against Bordentown by a 5-4 score.

Cinnaminson and Pemberton split their two meetings last year with the Pirates dropping the first game 7-6, which was played over two days due to darkness. The Pirates won the second game, 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel.

2015 CHS graduate Eddie Gore threw a complete game, winning his third game of the year. He allowed just one earned run on five hits. Stoots also threw in that game. He took the loss in a complete game effort. Stoots allowed two earned runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking five.

These teams will meet three times this season, twice for Patriot contests and once more on April 29 for the first round of the BCSL Tournament.
