Coming off a Patriot Division title at the BCSL meet, hosted by Northern Burlington, boy’s track and field needed to beat Holy Cross in order to capture the Patriot Division title in league play.

The Pirates did just that with a dominating, 111-28 victory over the visiting Lancers on a warm, sunny Tuesday afternoon.

“This is championship season, which started on Saturday. Guys just stayed healthy today and got their work in,” head coach Dan Fourney said following the Pirates victory today.

Emmanuel Udotong and Curtis Hickson were the big winners today for the Pirates, with Udotong winning four events and Hickson taking home the top spot in two events.

The pole vault went uncontested in the Pirates favor. Ryan Addlesberger won the shot put event and finished second in the discus, which Holy Cross won. The Lancers also beat the Pirates in the javelin event.

The Pirates are now finished with the regular season schedule and continue with championship season this Saturday when they travel to Maple Shade for the Burlington County Open.

Championship season began last Saturday when the Pirates competed at the BCSL meet.

Cinnaminson is looking forward to what championship season brings after an undefeated regular season (5-0) and Patriot Division titles in the regular season and from the BCSL meet.

“Sophomore Michael Ungvarsky ran the 3200 well,” Fourney said regarding the BCSL meet. “He’s the second-fastest sophomore I’ve ever had. This is his first season with track. He played tennis last year, so he’s still learning.”

The squad is talented, taking down some tough opponents this year, but even stiffer competition awaits them in championship season.

“This coming weekend a small school champion will be crowned for the first time ever at the Burlington County Open aside from an overall county champion. Willingboro is a tough team, but we’d like to see where we compare with them on Saturday.”

In regards to the talent on the squad, Coach Fourney elaborated as to how he and the coaching staff prepares for each season.

“I’ve been head coach for 11 years and we’ve had the same coaching staff so we all know what to expect from each other as coaches,” Fourney said. “We’re used to all the different events and we start looking a year ahead to see where we are going to be weak and if we can move guys around. We like to address weaknesses ahead of time.”

The Burlington County Open is scheduled for this coming Saturday, May 16 at Maple Shade.
