A 10-game losing streak and an 11-0 loss prior to tonight’s game against Williamstown would not stop the Pirates from pulling out a win on senior night.

For the first time in the brief history of the program, the Pirates recorded a win on senior night, a thrilling 3-1 victory over Williamstown.

“Very proud. Very proud of the kids. It is a great win, a great program win. We’ve been doing pretty well in a few of these last losses, but we haven’t been coming out on top on the scoreboard. I couldn’t be more proud of their effort,” head coach Craig Angelini said.

Cinnaminson is 3-10 on the season and still has an opportunity to match the program’s high for wins in a season.

It was a beautiful night for lacrosse, and the game couldn’t have been any better. There was no scoring in the first quarter, but Tyler Simcoe put the Pirates up 1-0 in the second.

The Pirates would hold the 1-0 lead at halftime. The Braves tied the game with 2:30 left in the third, but it wouldn’t hurt the Pirates confidence.

“It was a great team game,” Alex Artur said. “We played with a lot of heart tonight. We made some little changes, nothing big, we just played as a team today.”

It wasn’t until there was just over five minutes remaining in the fourth that the Pirates took the lead for good. Artur, a senior, found the back of the net at 5:21 and then fellow senior Patrick Morton put the icing on the cake with just 46 seconds left in the game to give the Pirates their 3-1 victory.

“It’s an emotional win. Our guys who needed to step up, stepped up,” Angelini said. “Patrick is a phenomenal player, a phenomenal kid. He’s been battling all kinds of adversity and put the team on his back and showed what it takes to make it happen. Alex did a great job. He’s been really struggling with his shot and he powered through it, he focused, and he made it happen. Great win and great job from our seniors.”

You couldn’t have scripted this game any better than it turned out for the Pirates.

“I just think we played with a lot more confidence. We ran our stuff correctly, we were running after ground balls, we were communicating. We just fixed what we were doing and we played tough,” Morton said after the victory.

Cinnaminson returns to the field on Monday, May 11 at 3:45pm when they travel to Rancocas Valley to take on the Red Devils.
