Anthony Minniti was appointed mayor Monday night at the township committee’s annual reorganization meeting. Bud Evans was sworn into his seat as well.

Minniti has served for 15 years on committee, beginning in 2002, and will hold the position of mayor for 2017. Minniti will also serve as liaison to Economic Development.

Outgoing mayor John McCarthy remains on committee and will serve as the liaison to Public Safety & Administration and Finance.

Committeeman Ben Young will serve as Deputy Mayor for 2017 and remain as liaison to Public Works.

Committeeman Don Brauckmann will serve as liaison to Parks and Recreation.

Newcomer Evans will serve as liaison to Health & Senior Services and Veterans Affairs.

Outgoing Mayor McCarthy was honored by committee for his service as mayor the past two years.

“It takes a special patience and personality to manage and lead a group of five for one year and John has done that for two,” Minniti said of McCarthy. “John has led this committee over the last two years with the same personality traits we’ve come to know and admire him for. He’s calm. He’s steady and he’s even-handed.”

Each member of committee made a speech on Monday night during the reorganization meeting, beginning with Brauckmann.

Brauckmann welcomed Evans to the committee and thanked outgoing committeewoman Kathy Fitzpatrick for her service.

“Bud is an outstanding addition to this committee and I look forward to working with him. We lost a great one with the departure of Kathy Fitzpatrick. She always fought hard to protect the residents of this committee and that their voices were heard.”

“Kathy’s strength was a true representative of the community. Her passion to serve the residents and to speak on their behalf was what always guided her. She was never afraid to speak on the peoples’ behalf. For that, her presence will be sorely missed.”

Outgoing mayor McCarthy thanked acting township clerk Lisa Passione for the job she has done stepping in for Pam McCartney, who passed suddenly last year.

“Thank you to the employees in the township building. Your professionalism made it a very good year. The volunteers on our boards and committees attend meetings multiple times per month and donate a ton of their time. Thank you for your dedication to our township.”

McCarthy also encouraged residents of the town to get involved if and when they can, attend committee meetings and use the township website often for information.

Newcomer Evans, who takes the vacated seat of Fitzpatrick, brings law enforcement and armed services backgrounds with him to the committee.

“We’re a team and we must work together in the future as such. I promise to be an unwielding voice of reason and always challenge the status quo. The term, ‘this is how we’ve always done it is not an appropriate term.’ We will be better. We will achieve together or we will fail together. I fully devote this part of my life to this group and to this township. I thank the members of this community for this unique position. I look forward to serving this community with distinction.”

Committeeman Young also thanked the countless volunteers who have donated their time over the years to the various committees.

“I can truly appreciate the effort from the individuals who serve our community. These are mostly volunteer positions and they are the backbone of this community. To those who serve; your willingness to be involved shows you care what is happening in our town and that is greatly appreciated.”

Mayor Minniti concluded the comment portion of the night for the committee.

“2017 promises to mark the beginning of another transformative era for our Route 130 corridor. A very important, yet somewhat unnoticed infrastructure project will begin in the coming year. The Cinnaminson Sewer Authority will begin installation of sewer main down Taylor’s lane. Lack of sewer service has been a major impediment to our ability to attract business, both to the Route 130 and Industrial properties serviced by this roadway. I would like to extend our thanks to the authority for agreeing to assist us by making this very important investment.”
