Today marks the fifth installment of our new series chronicling the top five games/wins for each varsity program at Cinnaminson High School from the spring of 2015 season. We bring you the top 5 boy’s volleyball wins of 2015 today in reverse order from number five to number one.
5. Pirates Defeat Woodrow Wilson 2-0 on April 9
In their sixth match of the 2015 season, the Pirates finally picked up their first victory. It was a rough start to the season for the boy’s volleyball team, going 0-5 in their first five matches on the schedule. Woodrow Wilson came to town on April 9 and the Pirates swept the match in two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-16, never letting Woodrow Wilson make a run. Four of those five losses to start the season came against top 15 teams.
4. Pirates Beat Paul VI 2-0 on April 15
After picking up their first victory of the season on April 9 against Woodrow Wilson, the Pirates went on to lose three consecutive games to Williamstown, Moorestown and Pennsauken. All three teams enjoyed strong seasons in 2015. That dropped their record to 1-8 on the season, but the turnaround was not far ahead. A 2-0 win against Paul VI on April 15 gave the Pirates their much-needed second victory of the year.
3. Pirates Outlast Moorestown 2-1 on May 7
The Pirates play in a competition called the Backyard Brawl and it involves two other local teams; Moorestown and Pennsauken. As part of that competition, each team hosts a tri-match once per season. During one of those tri-matches, the Pirates took down Moorestown 2-1 on May 7. This tri-match was hosted by Pennsauken, which beat Cinnaminson 2-1 that afternoon. It was most likely one of the best days of volleyball the Pirates played all season.
2. Pirates Beat Pennsauken 2-1 on May 14
In the tri-match hosted by Cinnaminson as part of the Backyard Brawl, the Pirates defeated Pennsauken 2-1 on May 14. In that same tri-match, the Pirates fell to Moorestown by a score of 2-1, but the squad played excellent volleyball once again against two tough teams.
1. Pirates Take Down Camden 2-0 on May 5
In what should not come as a surprise to anyone, the number one top win of boy’s volleyball for 2015 came on May 5 against Camden by a score of 2-0. The victory was the 200th in the 10-year history of the program, which has been led all 10 years by head coach Robert Spier and assistant coach Brian Mooney. The Pirates won the match by taking both sets with identical scores of 25-13.
We continue this new series on Friday when we take a look at the top five wins of 2015 for the golf program.
