Softball vs Overbrook Second Round Playoff Preview


The Pirates softball team hosts Overbrook today in the second round of the South, Group 2 tournament. Here is our second round playoff preview.

When: Wednesday, May 25 at 4pm.

Where: Cinnaminson High School.

#4 Cinnaminson: 11-12

#5 Overbrook: 12-8

The #4 Pirates come into today riding a four-game win streak that includes victories over Glassboro, Pitman, Delran and a first round win over Medford Tech.

During their four-game win streak the Pirates have allowed just one run and have recorded three shutouts. The lone run was scored in a 7-1 win over Delran.

Cinnaminson opened the tournament with a dominating 19-0 win over Medford Tech on Monday. The Pirates banged out 17 hits and allowed just one.

Baelie Deeney and Krysta Prestridge both picked up their first varsity hits in the win.

Brooke Figiel and Brenna MacNair both had three hits as 10 different players had at least one hit, five of them with multi-hit games. Two of Figiel’s hits went for triples.

Kelly Sigmund and Figiel led the way with three RBIs apiece.

Rebecca Martino threw three scoreless innings, striking out three. She did not allow a hit. Chelsea Price pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out four and allowing one hit.

#5 Overbrook enters this second round game with a record of 12-8 after taking down Haddonfield 9-1 in the opening round.

The Rams are in the midst of a three-game win streak that has seen them outscore their opponents 53-7.

Overbrook has been shutout three times this season and has allowed double digits in runs four times.

In the first round win over Haddonfield Rams pitcher Alyssa Briggs went six innings, allowing the one run on just two hits. She struck out six and walked one.

Grace Bell and Antonia Horay each drove in three runs in the victory. Horay (3-for-4) and Serena Pearson (2-for-4) each had multi-hit games.

These programs last met in the first round of the South, Group 2 Tournament in 2011. Overbrook won that game 4-2.
